Received RFE - Translation Question

My fiancé is from South Korea and we are working on submitting additional evidence for the RFE we received. His dad hand wrote a letter supporting our relationship to submit to USCIS along with a few other documents. My fiancé speaks Korean, of course, but he does know a good amount of English. I know that whenever we submit a document in a foreign language, this document has to be translated. Is it okay if my fiancé translates my father in law’s letter and we submit that translated document along with the photocopy of the hand written letter? 
 

I read somewhere that whoever translates any document in a foreign language has to certify the translation is complete and accurate. How would he certify this? Does he just have to submit another document stating that the translated document is complete and accurate? Is he even allowed to be the one to translate the letter or does this have to be translated by a professional?

Odd to get a relationship evidence request for a K1.

 

What does the RFE state?  Typically they want to see the 2 of you have met in person in the last 2 years and that you intend to marry each other within 90 days of arriving on the visa.

It may simplify things if your fiance just types his father's letter in English and have his father sign it.  That would avoid the issue of having to get something translated.  It would be as if the father wrote the letter in English and signed it.

It’s okay for my fiancé to be the one to write the letter even though his father is the one signing it?

That is absolutely useless.

 

The RFE you posted requires 2 things:

 

1. Answers to the questionnaire regarding your criminal record.  You need to fill out the sections they pointed out.

 

2. Intent to Marry:  A signed letter from each of you that you intend to marry each other within 90 days of your fiance arriving on the K1 visa.

 

Any other affidavits/letters will be useless.

As I understand it, the RFE states that they did submit statements from both partners stating that they intend to marry. Odd that they request more than that, but it looks like they did in this case... Did you guys maybe forget to sign your statements in the original submission, or forget to explicitly mention the 90 days?

We did provide letters of intent to marry with the original petition that was sent in but they need further proof that we have an actual intent to marry.

Nope, we both signed each of our statements and mentioned marrying in the 90 days upon approval. I thought it was odd too.

Nope, we both signed each of our statements and mentioned marrying in the 90 days upon approval. I thought it was odd too.

Some embassies require you to update the intent to marry letters when you go for the interview. It is usually mentioned in the packet 3 or 4 from the embassy for the K1. My fiancee then took updated letters just in case, she showed them, but they said not needed. This was Thailand.
