I have paid for my own for quite a while now, thank you! :lol:

 

My sister did "gift" me a login for HBOMax a couple of Christmases ago, which I do enjoy, but does seem like a cheap present really.

It's a terrible idea and not implemented well at all. The husband was pretty upset about it and if they don't backtrack he may pull our subscription. BTW, we do not piggyback or share the password with anyone. We've had netflix for years, but at times it's getting harder to justify the increasing price compared to other services. We do tend to use it while on the go and vacationing, and their ideas of restrictions is really upsetting to him. 

 

A similar situation happened once in an mmorpg, where a good many players would actually play abroad while on working trips, at friend's houses, or in a cafe. Then came a crackdown, and they'd block accounts because they were in ''different locations''. You'd have to call them and go through a stupid process to get it unlocked. Did you move house? Buy a new pc? Go on a trip? Well you'd need to call and be on hold for a few hours with an annoyed person while they invaded your privacy. Eventually the company realized it was a stupid idea.

The article mentions just Costa Rica, Chile and Peru. Is this how they are testing out this new "crackdown"? I am wondering when/if they will start doing this in the U.S.

 

I'm not certain they will make up revenue by doing this. Surely a lot of people would just choose to not have Netflix? 

 

As a side note, we normally have around 3 streaming services at any given time, but we cancel and rotate which ones are active based on what we want to watch. And we get HBOMax for free.
