My naturalization interview is for next Thursday which I am pretty excited about. However, I have an international work trip from February 14th to 20th. I understand that they will be taking my green card should I pass. How can I ensure that I can return to the US as I don't believe my US passport would be ready in time. What is the process? what paperwork will I need? or do I need to reschedule the interview? Thank you all for the advise.

Only if they have same day oath.

You can decline the same day oath.

Same day oath or not,  you can inform the ISO of your travel plans and you will get at least one opportunity to take oath after you return.

To understand. They only take the green card that day IF you do the same day oath, correct? Does Indianapolis do same day oath? Lastly, what is the best way to inform the ISO of my travel plans prior to the interview or should I just mention it during the interview?

at oath you lose your gc. Whether it  is same day, next day, same week, next week, same month, next month, same year, next year, same decade, next decade, same century, next century, same eon, next eon

If you haven’t yet, now is the time to make an electronic copy, front  and back of your gc. Versus  scrambling to do it at the oath venue while the ISO comes with a bucket to collect green cards

Does Indianapolis do same day oath?

dunno off the top of my head. Let’s see

It seems like same day oath isn’t done there.

Mention it to the ISO at the interview

Do NOT re-schedule your interview.  USCIS will only take your GC at the oath ceremony, whether it is held on the same day as your interview or some other day.  So advise the interviewing officer of your upcoming travel plans and request that you be scheduled for oath-taking only after you return from your trip.

I had my interview today at the Denver office. I travel out of the country on Saturday. She told me I could do the oath the same day and I told her about my travel plans. She said that she will schedule the oath after my trip that way I keep my green card. If they say that the oath will be done that same day tell them about your travel plans and they will schedule for later.
