Hello everyone, greetings from the Philippines. I just want to know if it’s okay that me and fiance sometimes called each other husband and wife in our conversation in whatsapp? Mostly we call each other baby or hunnie.

We are still waiting for our NOA2 and just want to ask this so if its a red flag so we can stop calling each other husband and wife in our conversation.

In our social media our status is just “in relationship” is that okay or should we change it into “engaged”?

Thank you in advance for answering.

Don't refer to each other as husband and wife, ever. They can deny or cancel the visa if they suspect you're already married.

It should be ok to have your relationship status listed as engaged because this is what you are.

Welcome to the forum.

Fiancés calling themselves "husband/wife" is probably the biggest killer of I-129F petitions and will be the death knell in a consular K-1 interview.  Scrub all such references as the highest priority, quadruple-check your social media, and never refer to yourselves as such again until you're actually married.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you so much I’ll relay this to my fiance as we don’t want any problem in our process.

They will suspect that you are already married, and deny your visa because you won’t be eligible for the K-1.

I agree with all that is said, but in the Philippines, if the Filipino presents a CENOMAR, wouldn't that be clear proof of no marriage?

What about rings?

My fiancee gave me a ring finger sized silver band that I wear on my right hand (think 'promise ring'), and she wears her engagement ring with a smaller band above to hold the engagement ring (she has very small fingers).

And yes, the engagement ring is properly sized, she was just worried about it.

I ask because there are a lot of pictures of us due to the four personal visits while we wait for I-129f NOA2 that show our hands with rings.

If your ring is on your right hand I don't see how it could be an issue, as many people wear rings on other fingers that have nothing to do with relationship status.

I suppose there is a slight chance that someone could question why your partner has 2 rings on her ring finger, since it could be seen as an engagement ring + wedding band. Personally, I would probably just not use or submit pictures where it is easily discernible that she has 2 rings on to avoid having to think about it.

Having a CENOMAR does not mean that that Filipino is not married.  It just means that the Philippine government has no record of the person's marriage.  The person could have married abroad or had a Utah Zoom wedding, and not reported their marriage to the PH government.  I'm one such person.  I presented a CENOMAR to the US embassy at my spouse visa interview.  The consulate staff did not doubt that I was really married, despite showing up with a CENOMAR.

For a K1 visa application, all the consulate needs is suspicion that the applicant is already married, to deny the visa.  Calling each other husband/wife could bring about that suspicion.

@Phoenix_9007 Did you send any screenshots of the whatsapp messages in your original packet?

I'm in the same boat, my fiance is Colombian and super romantic type so she calls me husband/spouse in spanish in our whatsapp messages in her way of being cute and sweet.  I didn't think much about it or check when I submitted my initial I-129F packet and looking back now on the copy of my submission, a few times those words were mentioned in our whatsapp messages but also fiance is used quite a bit too.

Should I prepare for denial and start thinking about appeal/Plan B?

Based on above commenters, seems like theres no chance of approval now. My fiance is very worried about it now that I've brought it up.

We didn’t include whatsapp messages in our packet as we were advised by our fellow filipino that we can submit conversation on my interview date and we can skip the conversation where in call each other husband and wife in whatsapp.

As a filipina I have to submit Certificate of No Marriage during the interview to prove I can get married in USA that’s why filipinos in the group said no need to worry about it.
