Interesting. It looks like USCIS sends them chaotically.

I would guess they just decided to send them to everyone with a pending case - less chance of "missing" someone.

Same! I can’t help but keep checking our mail ever since I saw updates about people getting the new extension letter lol.

I got one of the rare 36 month and a month later got a 48.

I see what you mean. E.g. first time they gave 48 month extension because of filing in Jan 2023. The second one is because the petition is pending. Makes sense to me, looks like it could be the case.

I filed in at the start of Jan and originally got 36 months and got the 48 month one this week. No warning.

Yes, they are being sent to everyone with a pending I-751. And yes, it is new.

Can someone please share experience or knowledge if it's ok to travel before biometrics appointment? Has anyone had any issues traveling back to the U.S. when traveling before biometrics appointment?  Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

You can travel at I-751 stage before biometrics, as long as you have extension letter, valid green card and valid passport. The only question is: will you be able to make it to the USA for your biometrics appointment if you're sent invitation while you're abroad? And how would you know about it? For the last question, you can check case status and monitor mail using USPS Informed Delivery service.

Thank you for the information. For some reason, my lawyer mentioned biometrics being done prior to the travel, so I thought that I’d have to complete it prior.
However, from what I’ve read and what’s written on the extension letter, I am authorized to travel, so I was confused.

I also read that if the biometrics appointment letter is delivered while overseas or out of town, and if someone can re-schedule the appointment, it shouldn’t be a problem. Is this also accurate?

This forum knows cases that were denied because somebody rescheduled biometrics. This is not reliable at all. Even if rescheduled successfully, you can be slowing down your case for many months because of rescheduling. Best recommendation is to always attend no matter what.

Your lawyer probably wants to protect you from complications. You can legally travel before biometrics, you can legally reschedule it. But whether it's a good idea, it's another question.

Thank you for all the information. Do you happen to know how much time in advance the appointment notification is sent to you?
A few days or a week to a few weeks?

That is hard to predict, probably depends on your location and how busy they are.

Usually it's a 1-2 weeks notice, I don't believe a month or so notice is usually given. Longer notice is usually for interviews. Maybe it's worth checking with somebody who recently did biometrics.

That sounds terrible . How did they know the denial was because they rescheduled biometrics and not some other issue with their app?

and you mean expired GC, extension letter and valid passport right just to check?
