I was unsure where to post this, so thought here would be best. Mods please move if need be.

I am posting concerning a friend. His wife left for vacation to The Philippines from Texas about a month ago and took their youngest son. (My friend has another son from a previous relationship) She and the son in The Philippines are USCs. He was born here and she became a USC I believe through her marriage (I could be wrong) My friend has found out that she wants a divorce and is not returning back from her trip with their son. Via fb messenger. He noticed she left enough money in their bank account for him to pay bills for a month (she earned more than him working in the medical field), wiped out their savings account and is trying to sell the house he lives in with his other son.

Is there anything he can do even with this distance in getting his son back? He informed me tonight that he didn’t see it coming and learned she stopped payments for bills a month before they left, at the airport wishing them a good trip, he suspected nothing. Until he checked bank accounts after her fb message a few weeks later. He’s unable to reach her as wifi is spotty (I’m unsure where exactly she’s located)

Any feedback is appreciated.

Did they marry in the Philippines or in USA?

If she wanted to be reached, he could reach her. Best advice for him is to see a lawyer.

Is his name on the deed/mortgage? If so she can't sell without him.

There is no way he would be able to get his child out of the Philippines.

You really should tell him to create an account and post here.

She won't be getting a divorce in the Philippines.  Unless your friend files here she's stuck on that point.

She is probably back to her old city or province, he can contact PNP and hire them to track her down and do survilleance on her.  He can find out where she is, where she is living, what she does during the day and night, etc

And then go from there.

He could fly over there, file a case on her and possible get her arrested.

Then he could fly home with child

Obviously he needs a divorce lawyer.

Thank you for all your advice, it is noted. He is seeing a lawyer today.

US Department of State has a international child abduction unit, I would have him call the number and discuss with them

Thank you so much for this and all the information. I will be sure to share this with him. Much appreciated!

There is no divorce in the Philippines, so there is no way the wife can file for divorce herself without returning to the US.
