K-1 visa Administrative Processing after submitting additional documents (merged)

April 26 - K1 interview - Refused under 221(g) - Requested additional documents

May 16 - Submitted documents

May 22 - Case moved to Ready 

May 22 - Case moved to Administrative Processing 

May 24 - Submitted inquiry asking why case is in Administrative Processing - No response 

 

Case is still in administrative processing. So this is likely not the background check admin processing as then the case status would say Refused. Has anyone experienced this? Is it normal for a case to stay under Administrative Processing status for multiple business days?

There is no guaranteed timeframe for either Refused or AP status before turning to Issued.  It could be days, weeks, or even months.

It could stay like that for months. I personally know someone who has been in AP for over a year now.

How would you know? There’s no way of knowing these things. It could very well be background checks.

So are you saying that while some cases pending AP get updated to Refused, not all do? Strangely negative way to say that.

Negative? I said it like it is. You interpret things however you like.   You need to wait it out, nothing else to be done here.

you would get better answers if u created a timeline

inform the VJ community of the country/embassy you deal with

 

AP (saying refused ) is normal after interview

important to give as much info as u can without personal info

like embassy?

what additional documents did the CO ask for?

did the CO keep your passport?

 

AP very much depends on the extra security checks needed for "some "  countries

if the country is poor at record keeping ,  the AP takes longer

 

and  just because u had an interview,   (as noted on the I 791 receipt to the USC) ,  approval of a visa is not guaranteed

May 16 - Submitted documents

May 22 - Case moved to Ready - NIV

May 22 - Case moved to Administrative Processing  - NIV

May 24 - Submitted inquiry asking why case is in Administrative Processing - No response 

June 3 - Case moved to Application Received - NIV

June 8 - No status change. Case last updated date changed - NIV

Nothing yet. I went to the embassy Tuesday. They said the case has not been referred to the State Department. It is "under process at the embassy".

AP is not unusual at Islamabad.  It's not the answer that you want to hear, but try to be patient.

June 14 - Went to embassy without appointment and picked up passport

June 27 - Embassy asked for passport again along with 2 passport photos. Case status online is unchanged. Asked not to visit them again without a special email.

We got a 221(g) asking us to submit original previous spouse death certificate during K-1 visa interview in Islamabad, Pakistan on April 28. Passport was kept with the embassy. Submitted document 3 weeks later. After some processing, CEAC now shows our case as non-immigrant with status as Application Received. 

 

2 weeks ago, we needed the passport so picked it up from the embassy.

 

This week, we got two emails:

 

Email 1 on Monday: Asking for 2 passport photos and the passport saying they want to proceed with the case to the next step.

Email 2 on Tuesday: Asking for above plus new medical and DS-160. Our medical was done on April 18 of this year. 

 

Asked the embassy to clarify but have not received a response yet. Do you think the second email was sent by mistake or should we be scheduling a new medical just to be safe?

Correction. Email 2 asks for a DS-260 for some reason, not DS-160.
