Replacement SSN card on the basis of EAD while a decision is pending on Green Card

I wanted to know if I can get a replacement Social Security Card for my parent who got his EAD a few days ago.

He is still waiting for a decision on I 485 but received his EAD. He had a SSN issued many decades ago when he was a student here.

Would there be any issue if I apply for replacement SSN card on the basis of EAD while a decision is pending on Green Card?

Your parent can apply for the replacement SS card for sure but any reason for the replacement if he still has the card? Unless the current card mentions "Not valid for employment", it will be the exact replica that he gets.

He lost his card since he moved out of US several decades ago. Therefore I need a replacement.

Yes he knows the number. We do want the physical copy of the card for any future need for proof that may arise.

He will have to attend the SSA office in person with foreign passport, proof of residency and his EAD. Complete form SS -5 , Very few places need you to present the actual card ( TX DMV is one we encountered) everywhere else just wants the number

Thank you. This information is what I was looking for.  I will then wait till his Green Card is approved before applying for replacement SSN.

I misread your post .. the EAD can be used now if he is already here and waiting for AOS

Thanks. If I use his EAD to get a replacement, it wont affect his I 485 Green Card processing negatively?

Nope. He is eligible for a SSN with an EAD

The "not valid without DHS.." words will remain on the replacement till he gets a GC..You cannot remove them with EAD. Tried that long ago and got rejected at SSO...

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.
