Hello,

I received a request for a biometrics appointment for 12/29 and I’ll be out of town during that time. I called USCIS twice to reschedule last week and they told me someone will call me within 30 days- I haven’t heard back yet. They said it’s been logged on my account so someone will call. However, I’m getting really anxious because I don’t want the date to pass and I don’t hear from them. I know it’s been Christmas and the holidays so it’s slow but I’m just getting nervous. They gave me the number they’ll call on- should I call them? Or wait?

What do you recommend? Thank you!

If I were you, I would take an early walk-in. Take your letter and some form of ID, and go before you leave town. People do it all the time.

Really? At all the Centers? I have an appointment for the Application Support Center in Alexandria, VA. Would I need to call beforehand?

I haven’t read from ALL centers, but I’ve read of a few different ones. I think that it is a standard letter, but most people are successful at early walk ins. I personally wouldn’t bother calling them. I would go first thing in the morning before they even open, and see what they say. Worst case scenario they say no.

They will definitely give you a call. Did they give you something which looks like a case number etc? And also a phone number which they would have told you to expect a call from it? I was in the same boat a few months back, had to travel out of the country when My appointment letter came in, I called to reschedule they promised to call back and I simply left My phone with My wife, they called but requested to talk to Me, so when I came back I got another call and it was just a few questions and I was told to wait for another notice with a new date. Here I am now with an 18months extension letter and just last week I received another 24 months extension letter in the mail and yes I also went for My biometrics.

If you aren't too far from the center, it is possible to do a walk in ahead of time. I have done this a few times with my wifes bio-metric appointments. Both times at my USCIS office here in Las Vegas, NV they recommended to do it on a Wednesday right after lunch, say 1pm. They actually told me they call it " Walk-in Wednesday". That is the best day at most centers. Mondays are bad as it is the first day of the work week, and Fridays are bad also because every employee wants to be done by noon and sit around for the last 4-5 hours ( These are government employees). Try on a Wednesday, and if you will be out of town and you can bring proof of this, even better. You will only get to the front door, but just tell security that you were trying to do an early walk-in, show them your appointment letter, then they will usually call a supervisor out to make the actual decision. I have had no issues 2 times, and a few people I know had no issues in San Diego,CA when they did it on a Wednesday afternoon also.

Im just going to quote an announcement from USCIS they made few months back about missing/rescheduling biometrics:

If you need to reschedule an appointment for biometric services, you must call the USCIS Contact Center (800-375-5283). Do not mail your request. The Biometrics Processing Unit in Alexandria, VA, has closed and no longer receives mail.

You must call before the date and time of your original appointment and establish good cause for rescheduling. If you do not follow these requirements and do not appear for your originally scheduled appointment, USCIS may consider the related application, petition, or request abandoned and, as a result, we may deny it.

Just tried and they wouldn’t let me in. They were short in technicians and had no room for walk-ins.

Yes, they did. Do you know when they called you back to reschedule? I’m waiting for them to call me back. Thank you for your reassurance.

Bummer, usually it works.  Must be because of the holidays,  everyone on vacation,  so it sounds like they were being honest.  Never tried myself around any holidays.

They promised to call in 21 days, I was out of the USA for less than the 21 days, they called in 12 days My wife answered and they said they will call again when I returned and they did call back. Just have your phone with you because they will call more than once if you do not answer, they will try again twice but not more than thrice (according to what the uscis agent told Me)
