go and pay for a criminal report on yourself /  see what is says

it is not an arrest or jail time  / just a fine

but it does attest to your character /avoiding to pay a fare ?

you should always pay for services here and obey rules and laws

so, it will be up to interviewer

BTW even my speeding ticket for 2006 is still on my criminal report

yup i know. i didn’t get caught to police office for fingerprints, and the cop gave me a yellow ticket which fined me $100 on the spot. i search a lot of info on google, it says my ticket is civil and i also confirmed it with tab.

now, what my concern is if i need to disclose it on n400 and if usics will ask me about the ticket?

again a ticket (like mine ) appears on my criminal report

so,  i would disclose it if on the report / u can pay for one

and i don't know if they consider fare evasion a moving violation but all moving violations have to be reported

this is controlled by each city  / some places it has jail time so u need to know your city' s view on this and u don't post the city here for us to look up

PLEASE create a timeline

if you want help,  tell the VJ community city and all info possible to answer questions

Filling out a timeline helps us help u and future immigrants who rely on all our experiences in the process

could've bought a monthly pass with the price of that fine.

Do you plan to pay the fine?

already paid the fine since it is my mistake. i was over selpt and left my wallet at home, but this is no excuse to exonerate myself.

now my concern is do i need to disclose on my n400 and if usics officer will ask me this question?

if anyone has similar experience, pls let me know that. thanks

Part 12, question 22 of the N-400 form asks applicants if you have ever committed or attempted to commit a crime or "offense," and not paying an MTA fare is a civil offense.  So you should answer yes and be ready in the interview to give the explanation of what it was and that you paid the fine.  Honesty is required on these forms, you sign it "under penalty of perjury" that everything on it is "complete, true, and correct."  The interviewing officer will be impressed by your honesty, so definitely disclose everything.  They may not even ask you about it since you were not arrested.  Good luck with the N-400 process!

As noted above, I would answer yes and then elaborate (on the form if there's a section for that, if not, at the interview).

I answered yes to that question on my AOS form, because a cop pulled me over for making an illegal left turn. I wasn't given a ticket or arrested, however, I assumed it still counted as a crime. The interviewer asked me about it at my interview and I explained - they couldn't have cared less.

Your misdemeanor is hardly the crime of the century - you made a mistake and paid the fine. Explain what happened and I'm sure they will appreciate your honestly and not give two hoots.

depend on the states, even though we didnt get the ticket, the cop still asked for valid DL and put on their system as "warning". at least that's what my husband told me when we got pulled off in NH because of speeding. he got away without ticket, but he told me he can't caught speeding again in NH for at least a year

btw just disclosed it on the form. u already paid the fine. explain to IO

Your choice:

Disclosing it and providing the receipt of fine payment will not affect your citizenship. It's a minor offense not a major crime.

Not disclosing it and having them say, "Btw we found you have this......?" will very likely affect it in a negative way for lying.
