I had my interview in October 2019 and was approved and I was told that I would receive my passport with visa in the mail in two weeks, then I was put on ap, then the pandemic 😷 happen and immigration ban. My medical exam and police report had expired. In April of this year I received a letter asking for me to update those two documents and affidavit of support. Did all that last month and sent everything forward. Since then there have been updates to ceac five times. My question is how long will this it take now for me to get my visa? Please help thank you.

The only people who know are the consulate workers processing your visa.

To be completely accurate, your visa will not be approved until after ALL processing and all administrative processing actions have been completed.  The real indication of approval will be when the status changes to "Issued".  The fact that they kept your passport is a very good sign.  Hopefully, the status will change soon.  Good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thanks for the quick response, but I have been in administrative processing for over a year now. Wouldn’t the ap have ended by now?

Not necessarily.  There are some cases which were in AP for several years.  Are you originally from Canada?

No I’m from Pakistan.

I thought so.  Unfortunately, Pakistani cases often must go through extended AP for background checks.  Hopefully, these will be completed soon.

What’s the usual wait time though?

A few weeks to a few years.......I don't think anyone can guess the average.

So basically what you’re saying is could have to take another medical exam in the next six months or so if it takes any longer? Because I’ve already done my medical three times already.😣

Yes.  Medical exams always expire after 6 months.

If they asked you to send them an updated medical and AOS it usually means they are getting ready to issue the visa. (They don’t just arbitrarily ask for new medicals during AP with no sense of when it will end.) Montreal has huge backlogs so it’s probably just winding its way through the internal system, though April to now does still seem a bit long for that. Have you contacted them to ask for an update?

Oh God bless you my friend, I’ve been eagerly waiting for a response from you.🙏

No I haven’t contacted them. Oh by the way, what do you mean by AOS? I was only asked for an updated medical report, police certificate and affidavit of support.
