if passport number can't use as certificate number, and we can't find the certificate number, what should we do about it?

You use the passport number as the passport number.   You don't use the passport number as a number for anything else.

YMMV

Certificate of Citizenship, and the money is not the problem don't worry:)

Not everyone will have/get the Certificate of Citizenship. It depends on how one became the US citizen. How did your fiance become the USC?

He could loose his citizenship if they decide to take it away for the reason he is in jail

and of course he has to apply for this visa not the immigrant

added to that are issues like the following

The fact that the American petitioner was in jail added a significant layer of complexity to the case. For example, the petitioner required permission from the prison to have his passport sized photos taken. Additionally, the prison social worker was very concerned that the American petitioner was somehow taking advantage of the foreign fiancee – it was like IMBRA on steroids.

If he is a citizen by birth, certificate number is not required. You are trying to fill in something that you are not supposed to fill.

so i can just pass this part? the instruction says

Item Numbers 40.a. - 42.c. Your Citizenship Information. Select the box that describes how you obtained your U.S. citizenship. Indicate whether you obtained a Certificate of Naturalization or a Certificate of Citizenship and provide the date and place the document was issued.

It's not about just skipping a part, it's about filling the form properly.

Ask your fiance whether he obtained any of those. He will say NO.

Would you put Yes or No on 41. 42 is to be filled only if you say Yes to 41.

Read the instructions and the forms very carefully. Read the VJ guidelines very carefully.

Greetings!

If he was born in Los Angeles and have a live birth then why are you making it difficult?

Just check or choose 40.a born in the United States period ( only check one).

" YOUR CITIZENSHIP INFORMATION"

" YOU ARE A US CITIZEN THROUGH (SELECT ONLY ONE BOX):

40.a.___ BIRTH IN THE UNITED STATES.

40.b.___ NATURALIZATION.

40.c.___ U.S. CITIZEN PARENTS.

Hi Again,

If your fiance' is a US Citizen through Naturalization then he need to supply with the certificate no., the date of issuance. as well as the place of issuance. Now, if he cold not find these information then there is no other way, but to apply to have a copy of his naturalization certificate.

thank u so much. is there any chance that u know how to fill the form online? every time i try to fill it online it will shows me i need the "password" to fill it. so i print it out. but apparently if i fill it out on paper i don't even know i can just select 40.a and there's no need for me to fill in certificate number anymore. should i use some certain App to download it? i used to download it on my iPhone.
