Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone has recently filed for advanced parole (AP) I-131 and an employment authorization document (EAD) I-765 combo card. From my understanding it is filed with the Chicago office and the most up to date information I can find is documents that were filed in October last year.

I am trying to figure out the most current processing times for these documents. The reason I am asking is we are trying to have a wedding in the home country of Germany, but unsure if the advanced parole document will be returned in time. It would be a disaster to cancel the wedding last minute when people have purchased plane tickets.

Appreciate any input,

Thanks.

I’d also wait until you have a confirmed date for Americans to be able to enter Germany for tourism. Currently that is not possible, unless they happen to be dual citizens of an EU country.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

With immigration, you should never plan anything until you have your document in hand. You might get an RFE, your AP might get lost in the mail.

For AOS, you send everything to the Chicago Lockbox (not office) and they send them to the NBC. That's where your EAD and AP will be adjudicated. Right now it's taking from 5-9 months to have them approved.

I would absolutely not plan anything out of the US, especially a wedding, until you have your AD/EAD in your hand. You can never predict anything with US immigration, and especially not during covid times. It took 5 months to get my AD/EAD in 2020, which I was surprised as it was peak covid times and I was expecting a long wait, but now our AOS interview has been delayed for no special reason, just backlog, so who knows what happens. Because the AD/EAD only lasts for a year, I have had to request for a renewal, and while normally it only takes about 2/3 months to process that, it may take up to 6 at the moment. Maybe that change is just for renewals only, I don't know, but since you mentioned your wedding is planned for 14 months from now, renewing your AD/EAD might be something you will have to deal with.

To be honest, in the current times, I would also not plan your wedding in Germany until you finish the whole AOS process and have the Green Card in your hand. Once you submit your AOS paperwork, you have no idea when your interview will be - what if they book your interview for when you are planning to be away for your wedding? You can ask to reschedule, but that will only delay things more and more.

Best of luck!
