Hi. I filed in Chicago last May. I have not received any updates yet. Is this normal?

No it is not. Your should have contacted USCIS after not hearing anything for one month. I would contact them and probably complete application again preferably online.

 No this does not seem normal .My wife file in August and she had her oath ceremony yesterday.     Did you file online or by mail? Do you have a USCIS account if you do you can go to their  website to see what your case status is  If not then you need to call them

Chicago filer here, filed April 1st, still zero updates since "we received your case." Do you have a myuscis account? Sign up there and see what your status currently says, you can check it via receipt number (usually beings with IOE..).

I know everyone office's is different, I filed in May of last year as well.  I got a reciept notice immediately (I filed online), and then nothing till Jan 21 (letting me know they are reusing my Biometrics) of this year.  Have you checked the Chicago office thread here in the forums it may give you a general idea of where their office is at processing wise?

Of course, if you haven't even gotten a reciept notice & the check hasn't been deposted then I would for sure contact them to see whats going on.  Whising you all the best.

I received the notice right away and my check was cashed. My status says that they are taking longer than expected. Time line says March, 2021. I've been a green card holder since 2009. I filed online in May. My friend filed in October and they waved his biometrics. Nothing for me yet about the biometrics. Maybe they need my fingerprints since it was taken more than 10 years ago? It's weird!

Very similar situation here. Called USCIS last week, was told that "they're working on it," "there's a backlog," etc. The USCIS rep over the phone also told my husband (the applicant) to write a letter to the Chicago local office asking for biometrics reuse. I thought this advice was strange and had never heard of it before. Seeing as how other Chicago filers are getting biometrics reuse notices and interviews, and absolutely no updates at all on my husband's case (his also says the "we are taking longer than expected"), I'm really considering just writing the letter that the USCIS rep recommended doing.

When my husband filed online, the browser messed up and did not take any of the attachments. He later when back and attached them all to the "Unsolicited information - Upload documents" section on the myuscis site. I have no idea if this blunder is what is causing the delay or not. I believe some others in the Chicago filers thread are still waiting as well, so it's not just us. Chicago is also moving through the backlog rapidly, at the beginning of January the "case inquiry date" was May 2019 and by the end of January, it moved to September 2019. So they are working through it. I really hope we will start getting biometrics notices soon.

I think the same thing happened to me. When I open my account and look under documents, I can see all the picture I attached when I filed. But when I click on them, they wouldn't open. They uploaded just fine. I hope they would contact me if there was a problem. My green card expires in September. I'm hoping to be a citizen by then. I can only blame myself for waiting this long and applying during Covid. Ugh!

Everything’s taking longer than expected. I filed on September of 2019 and today started month 18 of waiting. Still no news. However I’m at the Seattle office so a long wait was always to be expected...

The USCIS site has been buggy lately with things not properly opening. Have you tried contacting them via your myuscis inbox? Others here have had luck with that.

I actually talked a representative yesterday. The only thing she could see on my case file was that they requested an appointment for biometrics. She said most likely they will need to take my fingerprints because it was taken more than 10 years ago. It's the waiting game. Side note: if you call them and you get Destiny on the phone, hang up and try again. She was very unhelpful. Couldn't really understand her and I'm the one with an accent LOL.

Huh, that's weird, so she was able to tell you that they "requested an appointment" but no idea when the appointment would be scheduled?

 

Still no updates here either. If by the end of the week there are no updates, my husband is going to write a letter and physically mail to to the Chicago office regarding biometrics (either reusing them or setting an appointment), as that is what the USCIS rep on the phone told him to do.

 

I really don't get the Chicago office right now. I've seen people who filed in August already get their interviews. Why some people's files are just being left there to sit baffles me. My husband last had biometrics in end of April 2019, so not that long ago at all. I've also seen people who have 10+ year old biometrics get reuse notices. Everything feels very random, I have no idea why people are getting updates and we are not.
