🙂 Hello everyone! A friend referred me to your website for help. My fiance has a wound on his leg that he has been having treated for over a year now and it will not heal up. Someone recently suggested I try to get him a B2 medical visa to get treatment here in the US. I am finding very little information on it however. I see the requirements and I believe we can handle all of that. But I was hoping someone here has had experience with it and can maybe share some tips or how it went for you or someone you know? I would really appreciate it.

The fact is US medical is not cheap, he has to prove they can’t fix him up over there and he can afford for it. Tourist insurance won’t cover an existing condition.

He is in Nigeria. He cannot afford the medical costs here but I am hoping I can. I just spoke to a lawyer. He said he doesn't think a leg wound would qualify because its something they can treat there, its just that he is not healing.  I feel like if he came here, he would get better. I don't know. I'm worried he could lose his leg.

there are many who come for treatment in US but it starts with a reference from dr in his country which would state it can not be treated there

like organ transplants  or cancer victims

Chronic wounds can have many causes like from burns, trauma, infection, slow to heal because of diabetes, poor circulation,  poor eating habits or edema

A year of treatment there and a B2 for treatment here only allows a 180 day stay so how would it work for him?

he should maybe seek a new dr in his country or have them look into treatment for him in the US

For my mom to receive medical visa, we had to receive letter from her MD there, and letter from MD here in the US.  Fortunately, the MD in home country knew a MD here that took her case.  MD in home country had to submit medical records, and letter stated that she had a health condition that could no longer be treated in home country, a specialist was needed, and that treatment by MD who specialized in her needed care was found in the US.  MD here in the US had to submit information about the specialized procedure that is not performed in home country, diagnosis, prognosis, cost, anticipated length of treatment, and timeframe she could travel back home.

My mom submitted information on whom she was staying with and paying for treatment in the US.  One thing also, my mom was 65 yo when we applied.
