We had our interview today in Chatsworth California. It was a quick process for us in the interview. We walked in took our oath to tell the truth and sat down. He told us he had already looked over our case and ran my wife's background check. He said it was going to be approved easy as we have a 2 year old daughter together. I asked if he needed to see my employment letter and my taxes or our photos. He just smiled and said not necessary as we have a child and he can see we are really in a relationship.

He asked my wife if she was a terrorist or a sex trafficker and that was about it. Or apt was at 845am we were called in at 845am and w.ere out the door by 930 and it was that long because we talked about my job  (i have a uniques job and he had lots of fanboy questions lol) and i had question about how the pandemic delayed the process for the USCIS.

All in all this process for us has been easy and smooth sailing once we were face to face with someone from the government, K1 interview was 10 min, POE was 1.5 min and now AOS was 30min. We feel extremely lucky and blessed.

Next step (in 2 years 9 months ) citizenship!!!!!

congrats!

He said they were completely closed for 3 months, and they were on the verge of bankruptcy because they are only funded by the fees we pay. The first started processing citizenship applications a few months ago. And green cards (all of them) were on hold because of the presidential executive order freezing all green cards. Then about 2 months ago they started processing them again.

He said we were lucky because we were at the interview stage when it was frozen and that they are going through the application at that stage first and faster now. And they are slowly getting back to full processing again. He said he estimates they have a backlog of well over a year in California now due to pandemic and green card freeze .So we feel extremely lucky and bless to have got our green card yesterday.

@FamousJerry How did you manage to file for adjustment of Status and Work permit 1 year after Marriage ? I thought that it had to be done within 3 months?

Good deal, that gave the two of you two years of already being married at the time of interview, giving you right away the 10yr GC. So nice not to have to go through the removal of condition.

Congrats!

We got married with in the 90 days. Technically she was out of status I believe till we filed a received the noa action letter from AOS filing. But there was no penalty or extra hoops to go through even filing well past our marriage date.

and yes we are glad for the 10 year and save a few bucks not having to file for ROC after 2 years.

Congrats! It's crazy to hear that the USCIS almost went bankrupt too. I can't imagine what would happen if they did... What would happen to everyone's status while they are waiting. I really hope our interview goes as smoothly when they finally schedule it.

Saving this for everyone that claims that children are not a good proof of relationship.

Congrats!

Yeah when we started this process I woudld get a lot of "having a kid has no advantage in the process" But even during our K1 process, my (now wife) Had just given birth 3 week before her interview and she showed the interviewer photos of us in the hospital and told him I was waiting outside for her outside as well. He said our application and now child and my being here for the birth and interview sealed the deal. She was in an out in like 15 min.

Then during AOS we were in and out in 5 min. And our adjuster said he pre read our file and we have a child together and he was not worried that we were pulling any kind of fraud.

Our whole process, long as it was, once we got to the interview part of each stage it was the easiest and most stress free time of the whole process. We know we are not the norm and are extremely lucky.

Yeah, I don't know where this idea that children mean nothing to immigration comes from. Obviously, being a deadbeat proves nothing but if you're together taking care of the children and the husband taking care of his pregnant or post partum wife is great evidence of a bona fide marriage. It doesn't mean that you can't prove a bona fide marriage without kids, childless couples are approved all the time (me for example), but kids are a great piece of evidence for those that do have them. Also, COs and IOs love looking at photos, so they help, too.
