An Australian ice-cream company will rename one of its signature brands, the Eskimo Pie, to help achieve “racial equality”.

Peters has announced the ice-cream, which was introduced in Australia in 1923, will be re-branded as the Polar Pie, citing the colonial and derogatory connotations of the word Eskimo.

In a statement, Peters said the company was “committed to being a part of the solution on racial equality and we acknowledge that now is the time for change”.

It comes after US company Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream announced it would also change the name of its equivalent product after previously conceding that the term was “derogatory”. “We have been reviewing our Eskimo Pie business for some time and will be changing the brand name and marketing,” the US company said in a statement in June. In response, Donald Trump Jr tweeted: “The bullshit never ends.”

If I was a competitor I'd be cheering, and I'd be helping them by finding more products to destroy their name/brand recognition with. What's not to like about companies self-immolating?

Ugh, I wish we had more reaction thingies. On FB there's now the "care" one of a smiley hugging a heart, which I mostly use to be facetious and snotty in a good-natured way. I think we need something like a "facetious and snotty in a good-natured way" reaction.

I don't get the bold part.. but I thought immolating was good, you know.. ice cream, snowflakes, melting.. placating to this idiocy is self-destructive, even if they are a differentiated brand (unsure atm), because there's no satisfying people who find new things every day to get offended by. Once someone bends the knee, it doesn't make them go away, rather, they think they own you and you're on their list. We've had several years of digesting this now to see how it goes.
