Visiting Fiancee (for extending period of time)

I'm thinking of buying a one way ticket to go and visit my fiancee in Serbia for an extended period of time. I'm currently unemployed (thanks Covid...) and am fully aware that I cannot claim benefits while I'm out of the country.

I tried looking into putting my unemployment claims on hold (I still have several remaining weeks left), but wanted to know if anyone knew whether I could pick up on my weekly benefits after I come back or if those weeks that I don't claim count towards my overall number of weeks?

This whole situation is so stressful for everyone and all we want is to be together for a little bit (until our visa interview comes through). Right now we're both just sitting at our individual homes doing nothing, so why not do it together!

Why not just try to get a job when you return, if you’re planning to be gone an extended period of time.  A lot can change in 6 months.

That is the goal, but for the first few weeks that I'm back while looking for a job would be the ones I'd like to draw from.

Maybe you would have better intel if you were to visit your State unemployment website. That would be a good place to start. You might try calling them then you will have the official word.
