The protests are defined by tens of thousands of people of conscience who are insisting that we live up to our values—our values as people and our values as a nation.” He goes on, “We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution.”

Wow, this reads just like someone would expect from a disgruntled former employee.  He doesn’t even actually address which party is intent on dividing and conquering for power, but whatever.

   Regardless of any agenda or conflict of interest Mattis may have, his statement does echo the sentiments of many who are not disgruntled former employees.

Very disrespectful - you call out the troops when order needs to be restored. I don’t know if the general noticed, but this has been far from peaceful - the hypocrisy was Bush Sr does the same thing in the LA Riots and no one says anything.

    Most of us are not calling him a Nazi. Trump said he was going to bring the country together in 2016 and many said that was not in him. You can not win an election by dividing people and then govern by uniting. It just doesn't work that way. He is what we thought he was. Regardless of what he might accomplish, consensus is not Trump's forte. It never was.

Obama said the same thing, how well did that work out, and Obama did not face a concerted effort by the Left and the mainstream media to remove him from office.  Regardless, Trump did not cause the division in this country, the division in this country resulted in Trump.

Obama was the most divisive president in my young recollection.  Trump is trying to do better, I believe (at least i hope he is).

Every American can make their own judgment about whether justice was served by the verdict in the George Zimmerman murder trial but one thing we should all recognize: President Obama's interference in a local law enforcement matter was unprecedented and inappropriate, and he comes away from the case looking badly tarnished by his poor judgment.

"If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," the president said when asked about the case in the Rose Garden on March 23, 2012, after many had called for Zimmerman's arrest but several weeks before he was charged. "When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids."

In fact, if the president had a son, he would have been born to extraordinary privilege and raised with all the advantages of two very affluent and highly educated parents.

If you took all of that as Obama saying he wasn't on Trayvon's side, then you have quite an imagination.  Obama was the Great Divider during his stint.
