Hello all and Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate.

We are currently at the NVC stage but with many government places closed in Egypt,  we cannot upload certain documents.

So we were told that we could apply for a K3 visa, that it would be quicker and my husband can finish the other visa once here in the states. Is this true??

Whomever "told you" that, is wrong.  That information is a decade out of date.  Even ten years ago, it was only a few weeks faster.  Now, the K3 is actually not available.  Not for a decade.

Even if the k3 was available,  the same government documents are needed.  You would be in the exact same place.

YMMV

Yes, and even back when the K3 was available, you could not start that process if your I-130 was already approved.

Not true at all. K3 visas are almost nonexistent.

Whoever said that is out of touch. From the government: "Important Notice: When both petitions have been approved by USCIS and sent to the NVC or when USCIS approves the I-130 before the I-129F, the availability of, as well as the need for, a nonimmigrant K-3 visa ends." https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-spouse-k-3.html

Also, in fiscal year 2019 only five K-3 visas were issued in the whole world; zero of them in Africa: https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/AnnualReports/FY2019AnnualReport/FY19AnnualReport-TableXVI-B.pdf

So we applied for i130 at the beginning of Sept and K3 mid-Sept. Our i130 was approved in April and the K3 petition hadn’t even been touched. We just received a notification that our K3 won’t be processed because the i130 was approved last week. It will be much quicker to continue with spouse visa. Plus, I believe many of the documents for CR1/ir1 are still required for K3.

Honestly, rarely  no one wants their K3 to be approved.   It is like taking the worse from the fiance process and adding the worse from the spousal process.

If it really worked then everyone doing a spousal would file a K3.

One difference between K-3 AOS and K-1 AOS is that the K-3 (and K-4) allows holders that don't have approved AP to leave US without abandoning the pending AOS8 CFR § 245.2(a)(4)(ii)(C)

Quote

The travel outside of the United States by an applicant for adjustment of status who is not under exclusion, deportation, or removal proceeding and who is in lawful H-1 or L-1 status shall not be deemed an abandonment of the application if, upon returning to this country, the alien remains eligible for H or L status, is coming to resume employment with the same employer for whom he or she had previously been authorized to work as an H-1 or L-1 nonimmigrant, and, is in possession of a valid H or L visa (if required). The travel outside of the United States by an applicant for adjustment of status who is not under exclusion, deportation, or removal proceeding and who is in lawful H-4 or L-2 status shall not be deemed an abandonment of the application if the spouse or parent of such alien through whom the H-4 or L-2 status was obtained is maintaining H-1 or L-1 status and the alien remains otherwise eligible for H-4 or L-2 status, and, the alien is in possession of a valid H-4 or L-2 visa (if required). The travel outside of the United States by an applicant for adjustment of status, who is not under exclusion, deportation, or removal proceeding and who is in lawful K-3 or K-4 status shall not be deemed an abandonment of the application if, upon returning to this country, the alien is in possession of a valid K-3 or K-4 visa and remains eligible for K-3 or K-4 status.

The (almost) obsolete K-3 allows multiple entries with it during it's validity (usually 2 years); this differs from the single-entry K-1.

Yup, very true.

With the K3 visa being virtually unobtainable for more than 10 years, it's useless for any practical purpose, to discuss its "differences".  You might as well be discussing the difference between a lexus and a flying saucer.  It's a fantasy discussion.  HRQX is correct if the sentence begins The differences WERE.  Anything related to an actual K3 visa, needs to be discussed in the past tense.
