AP after K-1 was approved?

Hi everyone! Thanks in advance!

 

My Moroccan fiancé and I applied for the k-1 visa back in October of 2018. He just had his interview on January 15th, and they told him he was approved and gave him a paper saying the visa should be ready in two weeks and that he would receive a text message when it was available for him to pick up. Since today is the 27th, he’s nervous that he hasn’t received the text message yet. He checked the visa status online and it said it was in Administrative Processing. Then he googled it and saw it could take up to 180 days to process, and we’re supposed to be getting married next month. I guess my questions are is this normal? And will it really take 180 days after they told him two weeks? I’ve attached the paper he got after the interview just in case it helps.

All cases go through administrative processing after the interview.  In some countries it can take weeks or months.  In rare cases, denials have been issued after being told "approved".  The only thing you can do is wait and watch the status to change to "issued"...there is just no way to predict how long AP will be of any particular case......good luck.

You would be best served if you were to become a member of your sub-forum here on VJ. You will get first hand "boots on the ground" answers to your question. Morocco is a very difficult embassy and we have seen AP last for some for 6 months.

Agreed - no way to know how long AP will last.

There is no 180 day limit. There are members on VJ who have waited over a year in AP. I think the longest was over 3 years.

Most cases are in AP for days to weeks.

With Morocco, especially certain areas, there does tend to be a longer wait (months?) due to background checks. But this is not a blanket statement - every case is unique.

Thanks everyone. I’m hoping it goes through quickly but I’m definitely not surprised at how difficult the embassy in Morocco is to deal with. @Greenbaum how do I become a member? I’m sorry I’m new to this website I’m not sure how to navigate it yet!

I would give it until Friday to see if the status changes. If you still don't hear anything, try contacting Aramex directly. I know some others in Morocco have reported that Aramex never contacted them to let them know the visa was ready for them.

My fiance had his interview last week and his visa was already issued and he can pick it up today, He didn't receive a text message but he did call them this morning and they said he could pick it up today. Good luck!!

I interviewed for k1 visa In Lagos Nigeria exactly 2 weeks ago and I was approved.

I am tracking my passport with website but it still says passport is with embassy.

 

I'm  supposed to travel in 2 days. What do i do. I don't know who to call. 

Must the whole process be this tiring

There were never any guarantees when you will receive your visa. Sometimes we have seen visa's issued in one day others six months to a year. I'm afraid you are going to need to cancel your travel plans till your notified that your visa has been issued. There is nothing you can do to speed this up.

 

Embassies will tell you this either on their web page instructions or in the P3.

 

"Visa issuance is not guaranteed. Therefore, we recommend that you do NOT make any travel plans, quit your job, or sell your properties, purchase airline tickets that are non-refundable or place deposits for wedding venue's until a consular officer has approved your visa and it has been issued."

 

Do not buy airline tickets that are not changeable. I have seen too many situations that the visa was delayed for a number of reasons and the couple had to incur additional costs such as wedding deposits and airline fares. Just something to consider.

They were approved not long ago. This according to their timeline. You can access timelines from their profile on the left column. Yours is empty so we can't say how you are doing so let's change that....

 

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile.
