Priority Date

Hi there, this might be a stupid question but I have read stuff on Google and the USCIS site and still don't quite understand what exactly is meant by PD. I have an application for a i130 for IR1 and on my NOA it says PD 22nd November. I have read that PD is for limited visas but then that IR1 visas are not limited. 😟 I'm a little confused. Thanks for your input and please excuse if I appear stupid 🤦‍♀️

PD is the day your I-130 was accepted by USCIS. it is the date on your NOA. PD is created for almost all petitions. Its like a seat number in a train.

Thank you for your reply. I have understood that but how does it play a role in my petition? What exact train am I on if there's no limit on my type of visa?

You are the train with unlimited seats.     There is no waiting for a visa to become available for you.   Once the USCIS is done with your petition it goes straight to the NVC.

Correct.  You can use it as a reference point to compare other petitions around you.

 

Keeping the train analogy . . . some move faster than others.   So some before you will get get later and some after faster.  No petitions are the same.

The train ticket only really matters if your married to an LPR.. as spouses of USC don’t have to wait inline for a visa to become available once your case reaches NVC
