So I’m in a Facebook group that is not immigration specific, however, a member (USC) posted that they are now engaged to a Canadian citizen, and was wondering if anyone had any advice/stories to share to help prepare them for the journey.

I left a comment about my experience, how valuable this forum is, and outlined the pros and cons of both the K1 and CR1 route.

Someone else decided to reply to my comment advocating for visa fraud.  Actually said the process is bullshit and takes too long.  Told the OP to have the fiancée come to visit, then just stay and adjust, because it saves time, money, and you don’t have to be apart.

I was very respectful and let her know that planning to do that in advance is willingly circumventing the process and therefore is visa fraud and is illegal.

I received a note that I am banned from posting in the group for 24 hours because I broke a rule by being sanctimonious.

Y’all I cannot roll my eyes hard enough at that statement.  I was not being sanctimonious.  I was being realistic.

I hope that the OP does not follow the illegal advice given.  I went to take a screenshot of the post and illegal advice, but cannot find it, and get the “something went wrong” error when I go into my notifications.

shoot, i can beat that.

i was BANNED from a fb group for telling someone who had gotten culturally married in (whatever country their partner was in) that they were TOO married for a k1 and would have to get LEGALLY married and file a cr1.

the dude who runs the page (20 something acne covered dude who CLAIMED he worked at uscis, which i doubt unless a janitor or security guard) tried to argue that since it wasnt a legal marriage, it was fine. and then banned me.

im sure they will show up here one day asking for help and wondering why the k1 was denied.

As soon as I read Facebook in the first few words, I knew what was up. Facebook has become so toxic with false and misleading information. I have never been on it but over the years I have heard and seen too many nonsense regarding it to have any interest in it. I stay away from it like the plague.

So according to this guy on the Reddit Immigration page lawyers get preferred and better treatment by USCIS than regular people do. So that is why he went with one.

i would bet there are more cases with RFE's that were prepared by lawyers than without LOL ;)
