Yes. Either you've been checking it too much (directly or via some mobile apps that let you "scan" a set of receipt number), other people from your IP have, or their system incorrectly flagged you.

Usually it resets in 24-48 hours.

I think it's a bug. I got that notification this weekend and I wasn't even checking anything. Admittedly it was stressful to see it, also. As I'm waiting for my NOA2.

If you are using a VPN, or even at times something like the Chrome web accelerator, you might see this kind of a message even if you have not been on the site.

 

Essentially, the site can only see the address that you are coming from, and VPNs and accelerators will potentially change this as the traffic is routed.  As a result, it is not difficult to have multiple people end up with the same "originating" address, which then causes the server to block some access.

 

If you are not using anything like that, it is also possible that your ISP is using a shared IP address for multiple households, causing a similar thing to occur.

 

Lastly, it is possible that your machine is infected causing traffic, though that would be highly unlikely to be traffic going to a USCIS portal such as that one, so I am going to say that the chances of an infection causing this are close enough to zero to be ignored.

If you haven’t been checking excessively, most likely a bug and it will go away in about a day or 2

I don't know if it's changed in the past 2 years, but I believe it was around 5000 queries within 24 hours that triggered the IP ban (i used to do scans and rotated my IP ).

The most common cause of this that I know was people using certain mobile apps that let you scan a range of numbers around your own to see progress.

I am about positive it changed some time yesterday. I think you get locked out after about 10 queries done quickly now. They are probably trying to kill scanning apps. Contrary to what the message says though it is not an IP based blocked, using incognito mode in browser seems to clear it.

Either they changed it, or it's something going screwy with their system. The latter is a fairly regular occurrence.
