Husband just passed his driving permit yesterday 🥳. We live in California and they just asked for the social security number, 797 letter, passport, I-94 and let him take the written right away.

Did you have to make an appointment for him to apply for his driver's license or did you just walk into the DMV? We were told to come back to apply for the license when he receives his 797 letter, but I'm hoping he can just walk in and not wait a month or two for an appointment.

When/ how did your husband get a ssn if you don’t mind me asking?.. I thought you only got a temporary one whenever the ead comes through

We did make an appointment. But when we went there were a lot people who just walked in. Maybe it all depends on which DMV you are going to? We went to a DMV that wasnt close to our house and wasnt really super busy.

We got the ssn two weeks after he arrived here. His ssn does state " VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" but the DMV still took it.

How u got your SSN? Whom did u contacted? Did u applied before for Work authorization or adjustment of status? Thanks.

Yeah we got his ssn before we got married and before did all the paper works for adjustment of status and work auth. Just go to the nearest ssn and bring the requirements such as I-94, passport, and idk what else. It is actually better to get it after you changed your last name so you dont have to go there twice.

I am adjusting from ESTA so I doubt I would be able to get one. At least until the ead comes through
