The Barney Fifes of DHS/CBP/ICE save us again.....

It just warms my heart when I read new incidents where our modern day Sturmabteiling (SA) and Schutzstaffel (SS) agents of DHS/CBP/ICE (our modern day Barney Fifes) have detained some more seriously dangerous people at our border from going to school. Never mind that in the latest incidents the two young people involved were US citizens, apparently even possessing documentation of US citizenship. Where is Andy Griffiths when you really need him to interject some common civility and courtesy that should already be afforded to all our US citizens even if they live in Manhattan, Detroit, Mar-a-Largo or Baltimore?

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-citizen-detained-by-ice-francisco-erwin-galicia-border-officials-conditions-bad-almost-self-deported/

How would you feel if it was your child that was wrongfully detained by these jack-booted thugs? Does it make you feel proud to be a US citizen, proud of your government and its officials?

This government is a disgrace ! I used to be proud to be a native-born American citizen. All I can do now is shake my head in disbelief. I have voted since I was allowed to in 1971, and I certainly plan on exercising that right in 2020. United we stand, divided we fall.

YMMV

So just let everyone in?  The story of Mr. Galicia has already been discussed elsewhere and it seemed to have stemmed from a misrepresentation his mother made at some point in the past.

i worked in county jail and there's   a lot of illegal immigrants who are incarcerated in a sanctuary state. From minor crimes to serious once and a lot of them don't have any remorse and don't have any fear of repercussions. so yes, let's just have an open border, it's all fun and games until you and or your love ones become victims of a violent crime.

The OP raises a valid point amidst the feeling of anger on their part. How would you feel if your young legal child was basically abducted off the street by over-zealous agents that suspected them? Or your wives? Or other family members? Or you yourselves? All Americans should feel uncomfortable and look towards constitutional originalism in the thought that we should not be living in a 'papers please' society. While these mistakes are rare, there should be none, and is enough percentage of them to warrant alarm. It is not enough for agents to make simple excuses in these cases or to provide little explanation for their bad behavior. The term bad apples spoil the bunch should apply..

All over our country people can and have been wrongly detained by police... and I'm not just talking about ICE either.. but any police. They have little recourse after it happens. Well-documented cases from a corrupt ring of cops in Baltimore for instance, arrested hundreds of people falsely. It happens. And it shouldn't.

The poster's approach will make some annoyed, true. But I would hope that no one would be suggesting here, that it is somehow the fault of a very young child that has their US passport on them and is obeying the law somehow the their fault for being incarcerated. As someone that believes in libertarian principles... this greatly troubles me.

Are they jack-booted thugs with all the trappings pointing to Nazi Germany or are they hard working, over zealous government workers? It's a matter of perspective that is colored by your particular political views.

You point to the corrupt police from Baltimore, isn't that more of a symptom of the corrupt government of Baltimore also? Baltimore is a liberal city with a high level of violence and a large non US born citizenship, it's not just the police in this case but the whole of the city.

Not allowed to shower and lost 26lbs in 23 days.  The only thing that scares me is so many Americans have so little capacity in  the ways of reasoning, that they would believe such ridiculous absurd politically motivated manure.

How you perceive things will all depend on your perspective. Libertarians are always concerned with over-zealousness turning into a militaristic police force that begin over-riding a person's rights. We get concerned about slippery slopes. As to Baltimore police, that depends. Issues with the police in that city is systemic, dating back to it's founding. Certainly well before it was ever considered 'liberal'. The people I'm referring to that they arrested in this case were US born, and Baltimore-bred residents. They did it because of 'quotas' and they did it because they were corrupt. They did it so they could steal from the people they arrested and in some cases planted false evidence.

NB, he was still a US citizen, yes?  And my greater concern here, was the article about the little girl they basically abducted, nor could they provide an explanation as to why they took her. And that's really my complaint - we need to hold them accountable when 'mistakes' happen. The erosion of our liberties need to be protected.

There are also instances where people get into the country where they are actually trafficking children, or using false documents that end up in some form of criminal activity.  Should there be no mistakes by ICE, sure, but ICE officers are in fact human, so it will happen.  As we know, we oftentimes do not get the entire story when these things come out and ICE or any police officer for that matter are not allow to, or will not comment so it is all about the "jack-booted thugs" based on a one-sided story.  Well if folks do not want that then there is an alternative, just let everyone in.  No more COs assuming everyone has immigration intent, no more CBP at airports, or land crossings, no more fences.  With the current media (leftist) narrative of how inhumane ICE is and how utterly unlivable the detention centers are it is not surprising that ICE officers doing their jobs will be made to look like stormtroopers when they are only doing their jobs.  I know, it is all President Trump's fault, but where were these partisan protesters when President Obama's ICE was deporting even more than Trump's ICE?

Supposedly the starting salary is 50k a year? My husband thinks all police and security officers should be paid more considering they put lives on the line. But we've also had problems with cops cheating and abusing overtime rules to bilk the city. One such bad cop caught up in another scandal had managed to earn over 240k that way.

Quote

Overtime costs have doubled in five years to nearly $50 million for a department of about 2,500 sworn officers. Now 40 of the 50 highest-paid city employees work in the police department. These cops made up seven of the top 10 earners. The seven all earned more than the mayor’s salary of $178,000 last year. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/crime/bs-md-ci-overtime-20190610-story.html
