Unacceptable Marriage certificate

We received a RFE for my CR1 and in this they have stated that our marriage certificate is unacceptable because it does not include the date of registration or the signature of the registrar.

We got married in Arizona and have our marriage certificate which has the marriage license at the top and the certificate of marriage at the bottom. This is the only marriage certificate we received from the state of Arizona so we are a little confused if it is not meeting immigration criteria. We have used this certificate to register my marriage with the military as my husband is active duty and have had no problems.

Has anyone had any experience with a similar issue or couple provide any insight into this?

Neither my husband or I are in the United States at the moment and we don’t normally reside in Arizona anyway so it’s difficult to be able to go down the local county to resolve this.

I appreciate any assistance.

try and resumbit again, check to ensure when you scanned you didnt cut off any vital information or part of the certificate. if the RFE comes back you might need to go back to the registry, let them advice

This was actually my plan as I have tried calling USCIS to get some more information from them about it however as I’m the beneficiary not the petitioner they won’t really speak to me and it’s difficult for my husband to call. Thanks

I think you can call, just tell then you are the beneficiary, that's all... not 100% certain though but its worth a trial... all the best

Is this what you received on the day you were married or after it was registered at the county?

YMMV

It is what we received the day we were married but I now suspect there should have been something else we should have got after it was registered with the county even though there was no mention of this at any stage

There's the problem.   It should be an easy fix that a few dollars won't solve

Who didn't mention what at any stage?

Your husband should have ordered a certified copy of the marriage certificate from the county clerk.  He can do that now and submit a photocopy of it.

JessicaN, please do your Timeline. I am also from Arizona, we were married in Arizona and submitted our marriage certificate similar to yours. We filed I130 in November, and are very closed to get our NOA2 from Texas Service Center. I am freaking out now because of your post.

I have added the timeline. I have contacted the local county where we got married requesting a certified copy of the certificate, hopefully this resolves our problem

We got married in SC and we have a piece of A4 paper where we went to an office to record our marriage. On our wedding day, we had a marriage officiant who got our signature and later on, we received a certificate with a seal stamp that we present as our marriage certificate.

Thank you!

Hi just to give you an update as you have said you submitted a similar certificate. We have obtained from the court in the county we were married a certified copy of the “record of marriage” which is the section that was on the bottom of our certificate when we had the ceremony and the judge took this part off to file with the superior court.

Easiest way would be to take what they gave you in the US and register the marriage in back here in Aus, takes about 3 days to get the Aus certificate if filed priority recognition $47 here in Brissy...

BD&M will say don’t need to under law, as USA marriage is recognised here automatically but you can still file it.. then give that to USCIS

one thing ive learnt, is our public servants work way faster than theirs 😂

Thank you, that’s good to know! I think we have got it sorted for this right now (pending USCIS accepting the RFE we provided) but dealing BD&M here when we need documents would be a lot easier than trying to get documents from a small county court far away from where either of us are currently living.
