Joint bank account

I have been calling local banks and credit unions as well as talking with HSBC and at this point it looks like we have no way of opening a joint bank account here in the U.S until my husband is actually here. We are wanting to show something of our marriage that is joint, since we don't have a home together. Does anyone have advice on this or is the idea of opening a bank account while in another country not an option. Also, would the fact that we do not have anything put into place that is shared or joint, would that affect my petition being approved?

I wouldn't worry about a joint account at this stage.  Just wait until he arrives.....International couples living apart aren't expected to have joint bank accounts in the US.

I think thats for when he comes and if the marriage has been past two years when he comes. Then they would give him a temporary greed card and after you could use a joint bank account as proof, that the relationship is real. For now you just need proof that you guys are together, ex- photos, text messages, call logs, travel tickets etc

Agreed - if living apart then joint accounts are something they understand aren't obtainable. Go with other evidence. If you have retirement accounts, insurance policies, etc., you can list them as your beneficiary.

Every green card is temporary. None are valid forever.

I think you are referring to a 2 year green card for a conditional resident.

I think you are referring to a 2 year green card for a conditional resident.

Yeah I meant the conditional green card. Thats what my husband is getting. They send a list of examples, you can send them back.

we did it based on the fact I applied for an ITIN for my husband while he was still in Egypt, I used that number to add him to my bank account and updated to his SSN when he arrived.

**UPDATE! I just wanted to give an update. I was able to open a joint bank account with my husband. They gave me documents for him sign to take with me when I went to visit him. The notary process for Honduras is crazy and pricey, but I am glad we got it done.

Congrats,   that is the way I did it for an account with a regional bank.   They wanted a notarized copy of her passport.

 

I was able to add her to my Capital One credit card and to my life insurance.
