We're Not the Only Ones Complaining About Wait Times

Apparently, the American Immigration Lawyers Association is just as frustrated about the fact that wait times have doubled for no logical reason. The article says that USCIS has opened more offices, hired more staff and has about the same application rate but now has double the wait time. I hope something is done about this soon for the sake of all our families.

As to our wait times, with the exception of the I751 ROC, our wait times were fairly short.  The K1 was approved in about 4 months, and Katya got her visa about 3 months later, she got her CGC in a little over 5 months from filing with an interview at a time many were getting waivers that were taking double the time, so we were happy with getting an interview.  As mentioned, the ROC took a little more than 16 months, but she filed for her N400 during that period and that was approved about three months from filing with her oath about two months after that.

 

No complaints here.

Our CR1 process took under a year. I am about to file the I-751 next week so well see how long that takes. I'm not too concerned about the wait time on that because at least my wife and I are together now so however long it takes has little affect on our lives. My wife also plans on filing her N400 about a year from now and I have been told sometimes that goes through before the I-751 is completed. I would be more concerned with wait times on visas than things like ROC because visas tend to have more of an impact on people's daily lives in my opinion. I noticed the article didn't really specify which part of the process the wait times increased for. If it was for things like ROC and naturalization that is better than visa cases taking longer in my opinion.

I agree, the ROC stage really didn't bother us.  As to filing the N400 with a pending ROC, that can result in a little faster processing, but the ROC does have to be closed out first before they can finalize the N400.  In my wife's case, we had a joint I751 interview prior to her N400 interview, the N400 was recommended for approval, but we got no decision on the ROC.  About a month later we got the NOA approving the ROC and her N400 approval and oath letter followed shortly.

If you think it is a long wait for a visa, try buying a silencer.  Over a year wait to get one!

Our k1 was about 4 months. Our citizenship took about 16 to 17 months i think. No biggie.

 

Just had a buddy do a K1 and it was around a year or so

Is the the norm...? That strikes me as extremely slow! Obviously I haven't crossed that bridge yet but that is the end goal...I just thought citizenship on average took less than 1 year from filing to oath ceremony?

Usually but when we complained at 12 months they said 1.5 years was the norm. Already had 10 year so no bigggie

It is taking like a year now to get K1 done, even Philippines

 

We are doing Removal OF Conditions. It about 2 or 3 years behind.  Here GC expired and they sent an extension letter good for one year, then that expired and we had to go to a local USCIS office and get a 1-551 stamp on her passport so she could enter the USA when she traveled out of the USA.  

 

We are over 2 years behind waiting on getting a 10 year GC

We took a cruise in December in Miami and I asked CBP as we were entering why in the heck is it taking so long for my wife to get her 10 year GC.  He stated it due to all the Haitian Immigrants.

No, that's not normal.  3-8 months is more like it, I'd wager.  Depends on where you file, of course.

The N400 is highly variable since it is all done at the local offices.  As I mentioned, in our case we must have hit the Detroit office at a bit of a lull, or after they reshuffled cases with respect to Katya's N400.  We never expected 5+ months from application to oath, but we certainly appreciated it.  At that time a lot in the Detroit office were also seeing an acceleration in their N400 cases, lately though it has slowed down a bit from what I am reading in that thread.

I can't remember if yours was first, or ours, but Detroit was a LOT faster than Atlanta at the time, and that's why we chose to use Detroit instead.  Atlanta also required two different locations for biometrics and boath, whereas Detroit was all in one location (IIRC).

Well, obviously we were unlucky and stuck at TSC for our K1 which at the time was taking an extremely long time. It worked out okay in the end though, and we still had the wedding we wanted. His EAD didn't take as long as it's taking now, and even though AOS took a long time we didn't have an interview which was nice. Now we're waiting on ROC.. something I'd just like to be done with, but there's nothing we can do. In it for the long haul. Think we're eligible to file for citizenship in March/April, but I hear Baltimore is taking a year or something? Not sure what we should do.
