If unauthorised employment is 'overlooked' for immediate relatives of US Citizens, why bother waiting for EAD?

1. It's illegal. Honest people don't break the law and I think most intending immigrants are honest people.
2. Unable to complete an I-9. Most reputable employers require this. Cannot pass e-Verify.
3. If caught, the employer can face large fines or even revocation of their operating license.
4. While unauthorized work is not a bar for AOS purposes, it doesn't mean they are exempt from detainment or even having removal proceedings opened if they are caught beforehand.

There are also the rare few that have the opportunity of remote work for foreign companies (ones not associated with USA/USCIS).

So in your opinion, 90% of all drivers (those who drive the usual 10 mph over the speed limit) are dishonest people?  IDK, I find this kind of moralizing out of place here.  Sure, working without prior authorization is unlawful.  But the lawmakers made it pretty clear that they consider it a very minor infraction.

The dishonest piece would be claiming to be permitted to work. By coming to the US as a tourist or K-1 holder, you are implicitly agreeing not to work unless authorized to do so.

There's a huge difference between speeding/jaywalking/traffic infractions versus intentionally violating immigration status.

Indeed, only one of those actions has the potential to cause bodily harm to others.

And only 1 can get you removed from the entire country (obviously only if not in status and detained...the employment alone isn't the issue).

Edit: To clarify, the penalty is primarily on the employer still.
