We could ALL benefit as a nation if Trump were more like Bush, no doubt.  Trouble is, he is NOT a politician.  He is a narcissistic businessman.  And as such, with the (benefit/downfall) of being rich, he doesn't bring to the table a mouth filter.   But I think that's part of his appeal to some.  You don't have to wonder what he's thinking when he smiles at someone and speaks out of the side of his mouth.  You KNOW what he thinks, even if it's harsh or crass (Haiti comes to mind).  He's blunt.  And somewhat accurate (see Haiti).  

 

I doubt he will be elected again, unless the democrats try to put Hillary (or similar) back in power.  He rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but he was what was needed to shake America up and pull us away from the whirlpool that "normal" politicians were sucking us down towards.

#25 was certainly in bad taste, but most of those quotes are just examples of situations where a great many people likely disagree with Obama. That is different than stating that those who disagree with him are his enemy, or they are evil, or they are dumb or any number of other insults that Trump throws at people and groups that don't agree with him or don't sing his praises.

 

As I said I'm not talking about a President's politics. I've had Presidents who I have disagreed with strongly on a great many things, but it's always been merely a difference of opinion. Trump makes it personal. Now certainly other people make it personal to him as well, but people did that to Obama and he didn't stoop to their level nearly as often as Trump does. Trump revels in it. It's part of his personality. Nothing something that is becoming of a President, regardless of their politics, if you ask me.

 

Could you imagine Trump writing a letter similar to what Bush Sr. wrote to Clinton on his way out of office? I don't think we've seen what Obama wrote to Trump but I imagine there are a lot of similarities. I just can't fathom it coming from Trump. Especially if he lost after just 1 term in office.

I did mean devisive, autofill got me.  There is certainly a difference between the tone and delivery between Obama and Trump, and there is certainly a difference as to how they are or were treated by the media while in office.  You can argue chicken and egg with Trump, but the attacks have been there since day one. The MDL and Washington insiders including the media have all but accused him of stealing the election, and forced the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate potential foreign dealings when we have all kinds of evidence that the other side did exactly that themselves.  I know when someone accuses me of cheating, I get pretty defensive.  Trump is asked during the campaign if he would accept the exults of the election, but the questioner didn’t feel they had to ask the other candidate the same question, and yet we see that the losing side has in many ways not accepted the 2016 results.  Trump goes way overboard in much of what he says, he is bombastic, and exaggerates a lot, but he is the duly elected president for the entire country, not a president for some.  He puts the US first which does not mean the US only, but means we should not be subservient to any other country, but equals.

 

Regardless, this thread is about Ocasio-Cortez, a college educated newbie on the scene in Washington that seems to have Joe Biden, Donald Trump foot-in-mouth syndrome.

How come she doesn't get the same free passes you are giving Trump? Remember the "oh but he isn't a politician" excuse? She has been in the public eye a fraction of Trump, but Trump is ok for misspeaks, while she is expected to be word perfect, despite not having a fraction of the resources Trump has at his disposal, or she'll be attacked for it, any and all mistakes.

Who said I am giving Trump a free pass?  I have consistently criticized him for his Twitter use, and have agreed that he is the well refined liar like President Obama was.  Much like your president Trump, she brings this on herself with her uneducated comments and her total devotion to socialism.

I don't know if refinement is an word I would use for Trump, in any context. His lies are not very refined. There are just a lot of gullible people out there.

I actually believe I referred to President Obama as a refined liar.  However, I agree, there are a lot of gullible folks out there which is why Ocasio-Cortez gets away with promising free stuff to people without any plans to pay for it then when questioned about the funding replies that the questioner is not qualified to ask her that question .

I hear about her gender and age more from people trying to put her down and critique her. As you said, it should be irrelevant.

So tax revenues did not increase with the tax cuts?  Last time I looked at economic principles, when the economy is roaring, the tax revenues increase.  It would be nice if we could pare down the government a bit and save money, but that appears to be a pipe dream with those insiders that are currently there on either side of the political spectrum.

 

A lot of people believe in striving toward something, so Ocasio-Cortez is not alone, but with socialism, we have seen the utter failures, and quite simply I think it is insane to keep trying that same experiment.

Last I checked, it's traditional to see deficits fall during times of economic growth, otherwise governments run the risk of being caught off balance, when the growth invariably crashes.

If we talking about cutting spending, then why aren't you angry that Trump green lighted yuge military spending increases? And how come nobody on the right seems to be asking how we are going to pay for these tax cuts and spending increases? Beyond the usual, the tax cuts will pay for themselves. They can't and won't. 

 

Don't you find it interesting that the only time that question I asked is when we are talking reinforcement of the safety net for people not lucky to be born into wealth like Trump and has friends?
