Last I checked, it's traditional to see deficits fall during times of economic growth, otherwise governments run the risk of being caught off balance, when the growth invariably crashes.

Hence the need to reduce spending, but no one in Washington seems to be capable of reducing the size of the government.  Instead we get much more spending proposals.  The point is that the tax cuts sparked the economy much more than what President Obama told us to expect which means the revenues increased.  If we were still hovering around 2% GDP growth with the higher tax rates, the deficits would still be increasing, but by even more.

So tax revenues did not increase with the tax cuts?  Last time I looked at economic principles, when the economy is roaring, the tax revenues increase.  It would be nice if we could pare down the government a bit and save money, but that appears to be a pipe dream with those insiders that are currently there on either side of the political spectrum.

A lot of people believe in striving toward something, so Ocasio-Cortez is not alone, but with socialism, we have seen the utter failures, and quite simply I think it is insane to keep trying that same experiment.

There are also some successes with blended systems that enjoy some of the benefits of socialism. My wife is surrounded by people from countries that enjoy those benefits.

I can't claim to know what would work best for our country, but I do believe we could do far better than we do now with how we support our citizens. I don't want government control of industry, but I don't think a guarantee of health insurance is a pipe dream for us.

Did the tax cuts really spark the economy? Economy was sparked before and if anything more recently things to be taking a bit of a turn (or at least a slowdown).

Of course how everything links together is always difficult and very complex. There are people in these forums who understand it far more than me.

Didn't we recently pass some tax breaks with no plans to make up the difference?

She believes in striving towards a goal, one that I generally share though I recognise realistically it's unlikely to happen. I can see why people liked what she was saying. I don't know much about her personally though other than she is young and female.

Actually Tax revenues greatly increased after the tax cuts.  So reload on the whole tax cuts cost us tax revenue MDL democratic party talking point

Do you have a source for that?

Thanks. My desktop accounts are locked out right now. Phone is all I got for posting.  Hard to do links, but I thought it was common knowledge.

I hope your link was current enough of a statistic not to warrant a scolding .

I am cautious now when posting links.  I try not to go back further than six months to avoid consternation.

"Yes, the economy was booming in fiscal 2018. But it probably wouldn't have been booming without the tax cuts. Had Trump not succeeded in getting his pro-growth tax cuts across the finish line, it's possible we'd have seen a year like Obama's last one. A sluggish economy, barely increasing federal revenues, and a large increase in deficits"

they don't really provide an argument to back their opinion up there. Things were on the up and up before the tax cuts. Nothing there was convincing that the tax cuts made things any better then, and certainly not now.

though yes tax revenues were up, so thanks for the link.

Hmm, I don't pretend to understand this stuff all that well but I generally like graphs, do I found one.

What do people make of this? Seems to suggest something different.
