Here we go again. Packet is 316 pages long.

That is way too much. There's absolutely no reason to have that much stuff sent out.

I was thinking that too, but our joint referral and tax returns make up the bulk of it. We have a lot of sections...

There’s no way that would take that much. I’d advise you to skim through it and pick a handful of evidence. You’re just buying yourself a really long wait by doing that. You don’t need every month of tax either. Just a handful. There is no way somebody from the UK would need a package that big.

I really appreciate the input. The advice i’ve had for RoC has been “send everything”.

 

I don’t see how I can reduce the Federal/State tax return lengths - they are huge because of our tax situation. And UCSIC did ask for compete returns so I feel I should do what the official instruction say.

 

I have included every joint bank statement and every utility bill for the past 2 years. Are these candidates for rationalization?

Again. You’re sending too much. You can send the entire bank statement but you don’t need every month of it. Same with taxes. But it’s ultimely your choice if you wanna send all that. All I’m saying is an officer will look at the size of your package and say hey I’m not working on that monstrosity today. And will continue to do so for months.

I understand what your’re getting at - who is going to read a 316 page tome? Makes sense. I don’t want to be dumped in the ‘ugh’ pile.

 

So, perhaps but the bank statements and utility bills can be quarterly instead of monthly? I still don’t understand how I can reduce the tax return volume though? I mean, isn’t it all required? Or am I missing something?

Send tax transcripts instead of the whole return and maybe do quarterly bank statements and utility bills

Cool. I’m kinda hung up on the I-751 instruction what says “send complete federal and state tax returns”. Maybe it’s an OCD thing but complete has a rather specific meaning... unless I have missed something?

I do not even begin to understand US tax law yet. Mine is super-simple - W2’s, some share dealing - and then the IRS takes all my money.   I’m not in charge of tax affairs in our household so I just nod and smile.
