Case rejected due to wrong fee

Hi guys,

I'm trying to figure out why my package was rejected.

The I797 said the payment amount is incorrect, or has not been provided.

I submitted 2 credit card forms, one for I130 with my wife's card (535 usd), and another one for the other petitions with my credit card (1225 usd).

I'm not sure what the problem is. Should I call them and ask before resubmiting? And how, and how, I tried calling the customer service line but don't know how to reach an agent. 😕

Dumb question----but it's happened before on here----the signature is the "right" person on each form (I understand you used two different cards by two different cardholders), and checked the credit card info was correct on both forms, right?

The signatures are two different one, not one. Lol.

They destroyed both of the credit cards form, that meant they did read the forms.

If I call, would they give me more detail?

I would definitely call, the USCIS people helped a lot. After you dial press 2 and then follow the instructions to get to the “track a case number” part and then select the “I don’t know my case number”, and you will be directed to one of the operators.

took me a while to get through.

Definitely give them a call before resubmitting, they will straighten it out for you,  also read some of the I130 links and associated fees you have to send, I believe one fee is due first and the other is due at a later time, but check for sure, things change so often!!!  Good Luck!!

I used newest form except for the i 765, but on the website it says:

"05/31/18. Starting 09/17/2018, we will only accept the 05/31/18 edition. Until then, you can use the 07/17/17 edition. You can find the edition date at the bottom of the page on the form and instructions."

Not sure if this is the reason. Still waiting for the call back from a tier-2 officer.

Is it possible for you to send personal bank checks instead of credit card? Many payment failures appear to be coming from those who elected to pay using their cards. It is baffling though, they cited the reason being wrong fee amount. Maybe there was a typo in the forms? In any case, use checks the next time if you can. Good luck!

Thanks for your input.

I spent the whole night last night double checking the payment forms, there were absolutely no typos.

I called the banks and none of them said there were an attempt to charge the card over the last week (banks do save fraudulent charges).

That means there was something wrong with the forms that makes the whole package rejected. Maybe they don't like the fact that there were 2 people paying for one petition as it complicates the situation (Technically speaking some websites don't allow multiple charges on one single purchase as the database wasn't designed for that purpose, may be)?

This morning I called them up promptly at 8AM, was told to wait 26 minutes for a tier 2 officer to callback. It's been 4 hours and nothing from them. From what I've read on VJ, sometimes a tier-2 officer are not that helpful.

So I took my chance, put the payment form on the top, only one payment of 1760 USD and get it delivered overnight, tonight. Finger crossed.

Just for interests sake, I found the below chart on the USCIS website on how to pay with more than one credit card:

(I'm wondering if this was just human error on their part and the person didn't realize that your filing fee/forms were correct)

Multiple/Combined Applications

Here are examples of how to properly submit payments:

If you submit... And wish to pay with... Then you must
One application, petition, or request One credit card Pay the entire fee for that application, petition, or request using one Form G-1450.
One application, petition, or request Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover gift cards or prepaid cards Pay the entire fee for that application, petition, or request using one Form G-1450.
One application, petition, or request Two credit or gift cards (split payment)

Complete two Form G-1450s, one for each card, and specify the amount you wish to pay with each card.

Note: Make sure the amounts on the two Form G-1450s add up to the correct total, as we will reject a filing with an incorrect payment. Please complete one Form G-1450 for each card and ensure the total amount of the filing fee is correct between the two forms. (For example: You could pay a $400 filing fee with two $200 payments on each card.)

Three applications, petitions, or request One credit card Submit three Form G-1450s, one for each application, petition, or request.
Five applications, petitions, or requests
  • One credit card for two of the forms
  • A check for the other three forms

Submit two separate packages --

  • First package: two applications, petitions, or requests and two Form G-1450s.
  • Second package: three applications, petitions, or requests and three separate checks.
