Filling AOS for wife,do they ask for rental or lease contract?

Good morning folks,i have a question about AOS,i'll be sponsor for my spouse,i moved back to US last year and i have updated my new address with Uscis,do i still have to submit domicile proof (our case is Pivot),i have lots of differrent docs with my current address,but not sure if they are gonna ask to show rental contract as additional proof? My land lord takes only cash and didn't want to sign any contract..

I would think seriously about finding another landlord......does he give you receipts when you pay in cash?   There are other ways to show domicile.  I provided a copy of my drivers license, water bill, etc.  showing my US address and my name.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

nope,she doesn't give me receipts and doesn't accept checks,so i have no proof about rental.. but with this address i have-drivers licence,car insurance,lease contract on my new car,bank billing statements,registered to vote receipt and change of address letter from postal service.

If they do, you can thank your shady landlord.....I would run from that situation.

As soon as you can try to move to another place where they give you proof of payment. That landlord is kinda sketchy. If you have other docs with that address then you should be fine.

yep i have plenty of docs with that address,but i can't move so fast since landlord has my deposit,so i have to give her 1month notice that i'll move out :( and AOS i will have to submit next week,so it's gonna be a gamble

Having a rental agreement or formal/documented lease is not required. Showing that you actually live at the address is what I would focus on since that's what you have.

 

That said, the arrangement is a land mine waiting to be stepped on. No proof of payment...month to month...no documented terms of the lease. Be sure you are taking care of your own interests...this is a setup that could cost you later.

i could be wrong but im pretty sure thats illegal. you have no protection if they just say you didnt pay and are evicted

Another alternative for showing that address is a letter from your landlady. I had a relative in a similar situation. I don’t think it’s relevant at this point in your case but later on you when your spouse naturalizes you might want a lease showing you reside together. Definitely plan on moving in the future.

yep i know that,when our case will be approved,i will buy a house,now i can't use my savings to buy own place, since i'm using it for sponsor financial proof and i have to rent a place from that shady lady for now :(
