This would bring some legitimacy back to the peace prize after Obama, who presided over more wars than any other modern president, received the prize. The left will throw a temper tantrum to end all temper tantrums is this happens.

Nobel Peace Prize is a joke. Obama started his 1st term 1/20/2009, the award was announced on 10/9/2009. Basically less than 10 mos of diplomacy was sufficient for a Nobel Peace Prize. Meanwhile poor scientists do 30-40 years of research for the equivalent science prizes.

Agreed. Basically Obama did nothing and got it. Trump is already far more deserving of it than Obama was.

Since the committee made the Peace Prize pretty much a joke giving it to Obama, why would Trump even want one?

Because you know it would inflate his ego to no end. I can see him saying something like "Hey look at my Nobel Peace Price. They gave to me because of all of my YUGE hardwork doing what Obama couldn't do. It really is the greatest". Sorry I tried to add more but I just couldn't do it.

I know he is my President and I am a supporter of him but even I can say that he has a ego.

Do the winners get like a medal, or a statue? I could totally see it on his desk. That way when a foreign visitor comes he can show them the medal, instead of a phone.

I tend to like it when they award the Peace Prize to organizations, though even that depends. I've never really considered it on the same level as some of the other Nobel Prizes. The literature ones I find a bit subjective. The Science ones, as others have pointed out, typically require a lifetime of work to achieve. Honestly there are far more people deserving of the Scientific prizes than get recognized.

If I was him I would put it on my desk for everyone to see it.

To be honest I'm pretty sure most people would. No matter how small your ego is, I think it would be natural to be proud of an achievement like that.

I'm sure many of the actual winners consider themselves "not deserving" and would have nominated someone else. Comes with the territory of awards like that. The few Nobel Winners I've met (two in Science, back in Med School ) both commented that they thought they had "stepped over" others who deserved it more at the time they were given their award. Humble guys.

Politics aside, I think Obama was probably equally confused/surprised by winning. I think he is pretty genuine in the speech above. He has also said since (sometimes jokingly) that he doesn't really know what it was for. I agree it probably wasn't the best choice, and I believe people at the Committee have even admitted that since then.

While they have already set a precedent by giving it to him, I do think in the future if they want to award it to politicians they should try to wait until they are out of office, particularly with US Presidents. I think it will always be controversial giving it to someone who controls the largest military in the world and the largest stockpile of Nuclear Weapons.

If Trump ends up truly deserving (If we are talking about North Korea specifically we need a bit more time...there have been "peace agreements" in the past that have fallen through), then I'm fine with that. But I'd wait until he serves his term.

Hmm, could have said that in 2009.

As objective as we can be on the subject, Obama is far more intelligent than Trump, based on intellectual accomplishments. Where they both started, what advantages they had at birth, what they achieved, where they were educated, what kind of education they received etc...

That has nothing to do with who is/was a better President...but if you just want to talk about intelligence (moron/idiot) they aren't in the same league. I don't think Trump is a complete moron, I actually think he is smarter than he lets on and it much of it is part of his "act". However, you put the two in the same room and have an intellectual challenge and I have absolutely zero doubt who would come out on top. It wouldn't even be close.

Opinions about climate change aside, I at least have to agree that I think it was a bit of stretch that the "Peace Prize" was given to anyone (or organization, I believe he shared it?) for Climate Change research/advocacy. That's a pretty loose association to promoting "Peace". I guess peace with our planet?
