Despite Heightened Fear Of School Shootings, It's Not A Growing Epidemic

Just saw one of their fancy graphs includes any fatal school shooting, so at least they include that. Still would like the actual data.

I'm also curious if in their actual scientific paper if they are going to include upper and lower control limits on their graphs, or if they will just keep them as run charts. But again that is getting into the nitty gritty.

Thanks. That's a shame. I'll probably forget before then.

I'm always suspicious of colorful graphs and results published to the media before scientific publication.

In also wondering why the cut off of 4 victims? Is that a standard number for "mass shootings"? What about the trend of shootings in general at school? I'd say even one victim at a school is bad.

4 does seem a small number for mass.

One victim anywhere is not that good.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I think it is the FBI definition of a mass shooting..

NPR is left wing? You must be joking. Now I can clearly see how far right the Trump supporters on here have gone.

I bet you think CNN is liberal.

 No, Fox News and Trump supporters have gone so far to the right they can barely see the center on the horizon.

Man talk about delusional. It's actually the complete opposite of what you say. Trump has leaned towards the center on some issues and many on the left have such a personal vendetta against him if Trump agrees with one of their positions they just shift their position to the extreme left to spite him or something. Take DACA for example. Trump was basically offering the left what they wanted (which angered some of his supporters). At that point they shifted their position further to the extreme left  (some even demanding legalization for all illegals). Another example is gun legislation. Trump indicated he would consider some form of gun legislation (which again angered some of his supporters). Again the left shifted to the extreme left in response proposing a ban on ALL semi autos (even though many of them don't even know what semi auto means).

So you got it backwards pal. Trump comes close to the center on some issues and the left goes into extreme left wing nut mode in response. Let's just call it how it is here. NPR, CNN, MSNBC and many other news outlets ARE left leaning media outlets. Fox news is a right leaning media outlet. I don't pay much attention to any of them because they all have a clear bias.

NPR & CNN are left leaning - as in they have a slightly progressive tint to what they report. There isn't really anything wrong with that - journalism is by its nature a more progressive field and so its natural for this to occur. MSNBC and Fox News, on the other hand, are mouthpieces for the left and right respectively.

Has someone seen a link to their actual study, with their methodology and actual data? I don't really like colorful graphs.

I found the data and I am reading the methodology used in the study   I will post a breakdown when I am done, its a long read

so if CNN and NPR lean left and MSNBC is beyond the left ditch and Fox, beyond the right ditch ?

Who just reports the news. Little stuff like who what where and when.

Gotcha, I figured there was a definition they were sticking to.

Nope, sorry, the FBI doesn’t define mass shootings nor mass murders.  4 has been a number used by various “tracking sites”, but even that gets murky because one will call it mass murder when 4 or more people are involved, but only 1 is killed.

I don’t have an issue with a standard number per se.  4 is a lot when you’re a family member of the shotted persons, but probably not statistically significant.  I just wish it WAS standard.
