So... My combo card expires in 178 days (I applied for AOS from K1 almost a year ago, and zero news about that, still on "fingersprints fee received").

I heard that this year's EAD renewals are taking 6 to 8 months. Is that true?? What happens if they don't send the renewal before it expires? Are we supposed to stop working? I'm self-employed: would I have to stop working?

Also, do I send the renewal application to the Chicago Lockbox or my field office?

Thanks.

You EAD card is good for 180 after expiration date,   but send in renewal petition 90 days before expiration date.  I know people who sent it 4 and 5 months ahead of time due to the backlog.

Your receipt that USCIS will send to you for receipt of your renewal petition  will tell you near bottom of receipt , your card is good for an additional 180 days.

Send renewal to Chicago lock box.

YES, renewals are taking long, ours took 6 1/2 months to received.

Oopsss... I meant, 89 days! I don't know why I wrote 178. It expires in June. So I have to apply now.

So, it's valid for another 180 days since the card expiration date, or SINCE the date of the NOA1?

Thanks!

If you file to renew your EAD on time (meaning that USCIS receives your application before your current EAD expires), you can still keep working for 180 days from the date of the expiration date on your current EAD. File asap.

Biometrics is only valid for 14 months or so. Applications that take longer than 14 months usually require you to go for another biometrics.

No you don't need to go, you can't even get an EAD anymore and wouldn't have any use for it anyway.

Thank you.

I must be the last K1 December filer who finally got her green card.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you were (K1, applied August 2017 and no word on the GC) and wondered if you could share an update? Did you get your EAD/AP card renewal yet? Or have you heard anything further regarding AOS

Also, does anyone know - the 180 day extension for work, does this also allow you to travel 180 days after the expiry date on the combo card? I'm assuming not...?

Many thanks!

Unfortunately the automatic extension does not apply to AP.

I filed for AOS on May 2017 and still nothing regarding the GC and now when trying to extend EAD/AP it takes them more than 5 months and nothing on that either so I can't leave.

Literally holding us hostage in the US.

Hi. No, I have no updates on either. Haven't heard from my AOS since April 2017, and know nothing of my EAD/AP renewal since March 2018.

The 180-day extension applies only to EAD, so you can't travel until they send you the new combo card. As someone else said, it feels like they're holding us hostage.

It's so frustrating when so many people that applied after you got their GC almost a year ago, and you're still waiting with zero news on your case. I am SO depressed I don't even want to think about the whole immigration thing at all, because every time I do I just feel awful.

Good luck to everyone.

Thank you both for your replies!

You are not alone in your frustration. I never thought I would have to go through the agony of not being able to leave the US at will again... and yet it seems that with the backlog for renewals that could end up being the case. It upsets me too because while I'm obviously grateful for having the AP/EAD, life is much more difficult than it would be with a green card.

Have either of you taken any further action on the part of chasing up your GC? Is there anything we can do?
