It is confusing.

We were married in CA. We had to register for a license before we could schedule a wedding, and that license was the one that the judge signed right after the ceremony, so I assumed that wasn't the document needed for AOS.

I was told that the certificate you receive after a month or so is what's required because your marriage isn't registered the day of the ceremony, but I also read that it's just a souvenir. I remember being asked if I wanted a certified copy during registration, though. We even paid for it. I assumed that that was the certificate we received a month later. So yeah, CONFUSING.

But anyway, to be safe, I sent both the signed license and the certificate.

We got married in a county here in Georgia and our marriage license was collected by the Judge who told us to expect a certificate in 10days. We sent the regular certificate to USCIS without being certifying it. We only got an Rfe for i-864, which means the other Documents are fine. "my view tho"

It's crazy how every state is different! we got married at the city hall and got 4 certified copies at the end of the ceremony which was prepared before when we applied for the license. We also got one certificate the same day as a souvenir for framing.

I think it goes by state, no? When we got married we applied for marriage license and had to wait couple of days to pick it up and it came in an envelope saying marriage certificate, the certificate itself had a county seal there was another paper that we signed and left it with the person who officiated the wedding.

True! It makes everything so confusing. I feel like they should be clearer about this, not just to filers but also to the officers because I think whether or not you get an RFE also depends on what the officer thinks is the "correct"/an "acceptable" document.

If we're not careful this whole process will drive us all nuts lol! I do believe they make things more complicated than it need to be to get us and with that comes frustrations but we just gotta relax and provide all they require of us! The goal is to try exercise patience.

Exactly. Patience when it comes to waiting as well as patience when you get an RFE for something that someone else didn't get an RFE for. :P but really, these officers need to be on the same page. I'm tired of being anxious, hoping the officer handling my case isn't super finicky.

You are so right! It's like a hit or miss when it comes to each case

Ditto.

I had to stay away from here and other forums for a few weeks lol, every time I came on here and read people's posts I just went bonkers thinking I didn't do enough and whatnot. Looking back, I think I put more than enough.

Was it necessary to send three copies? We included one certified copy with the AOS form, none with the other two forms :/ (all documents sent together).

Certified with the AOS and copies for the other two.  They are 3 separate application forms and need separate documentation for each.  That is why you need to submit the G-1145 for each if you want to be electronically notified for each.
