NBC announces 'Today' show co-host Matt Lauer fired due to inappropriate sexual behavior at work

“Today” show co-host Matt Lauer has been fired from NBC due to inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.

Lauer's co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was joined by Hoda Kotb to announce the news Wednesday morning on "Today."

"This is a sad morning here at 'Today' and at NBC News," Guthrie said before reading a note from NBC News chairman Andy Lack.

Okay...so the rumor of his firing was around in public by Thanksgiving eve, but the press was aware of it at least a few weeks back. He's one of three big potential names coming down btw. I thought perhaps they'd terminate him on that day and not let him appear on the parade... embarrassingly they let him continue to host the Thanksgiving Parade. For NBC to imply they didn't find out about a complaint by Monday is nonsense damage control. Lauer is of no surprise to me... he has a track record of being horrible to women. I find it disturbing that every time the company announces these firings, they make his former female co-anchors read the statement... as if that makes it all okay. I'd like for some of the male co-anchors to participate and stand by their side.

I was thinking about that when I heard it on the radio this morning. 

 

Lauer's contract was apparently up after 2018, so perhaps they mutually agreed it was an easy way out.

I find it incredibly sad that women, up until recently, didn't feel comfortable reporting men literally dropping their pants and flashing their junk in the office.

 

You know we have a problem in our society when a woman experiences that and thinks "I better not report this, I could get in trouble"...

 

While I'm glad NBC has gotten rid of him...I've yet to see a reasonable "excuse" for why it wasn't done earlier. In that article it seems to suggest this behavior was fairly well known. They don't suddenly "get a pass" just because they decided to do the right thing now. The guy sounds like a pig.

 

Has he made any public comments? I'm sure it's going to be something like "I am going to take this time to be with my family, as I personally reflect on what I have done. I have a lot of reflecting to do".

I think we need to be careful to go on a full scale witch hunt. We need to keep perspective on what actually gained.

 

It appears Lauer was a very bad boy, but as I have said before Franken may have been a bit sophomoric,  but I think it was way over blown.

Here is another Minnesotan in the news in a similar circumstance.  If they fired him over the story he seems to remember, it may be an over-reach, but I suppose there is possibly more to the story.
