Hi, im in the process of completing K-1 for my wife. She already entered US on a K-1 visa and we got married so Im starting to file I-485 and I have 2 questions:

 

1. Do I start filing I-485 under her new married last name or her old maiden name?

2. When do we go to SS office to get her SS number?

I was originally told to get the SSN before the wedding in the maiden name and do a name change after the wedding.  

The new EAD process includes SSN now.

I would get the SSN ASAP as long as she is already in the system.  I hear that takes a few weeks.

PHILIPPINES ONLY!!!  CFO (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) INFO - Can't leave home without it!

 

PDOS (Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar) is for ages 20-59.  Peer Counseling is for 13-19 years of age.

It is required to have the visa in their passport for PDOS and Peer Counseling.

 

GCP (Guidance and Counseling Program) is for K-1 Fiancee and IR/CR-1 spouse ONLY.

does she want to change her name? if yes, then fill out all the forms in her married name.

2. When do we go to SS office to get her SS number?

i got my ssn the day after i arrived. but like poster above said, the new AOS forms have a section for SSN application built in.

N-400     28-Jun-21 Filed online ~ 28-Jun-21 Received NOA + "Biometrics will be re-used" notice ~ 14-Dec-21 Interview scheduled ~ 25-Jan-22 Interview. Approved. Case status: Oath will be scheduled.  ~ 01-Feb-22 Oath scheduled. ~ 14-Feb-22 Oath ceremony.

I went to Social Security right after we got married. Then I filed with my married name & SSN but included my maiden name in the "Part 3" of the I-485"

 

K1 Visa
08/15/14 - Filed
08/25/14 - Acceptance email sent
08/26/14 - Alien Registration Number changed.
10/17/14 RFE was received
10/23/14 RFE/I-195F mailed back to USCIS
11/05/14 I-129F Petition Approved!!!!!!!!!!!!
12/10/14 U.S. Consulate received case in the mail!!
12/19/14 Submitted DS-160 online form.
01/15/15 Submitted Package 3 Checklist for a request for interview!
01/16/15 Consulate sent me packet to prepare for my interview/medical!
02/20/15 Physical
02/24/15 Visa Interview/APPROVED!!!!!!! (6 months!!)

It is important to apply for SSN under the maide name because it will much the name on I-94.
