Hello,

My mother, a US citizen, applied i-130 for her unmarried sister back in january 2012.

Does anyone have any clue what time line we should expect for her to get the process in motion.

It has been 6 years come January 2017.

Any feedback would be a consolation.

Expect another 3 to 4 years. It's normally 10  years for siblings.

Probably closer to 12 years for siblings.

Certain countries like Mexico, India, and Philippines have an extremely high backlog of sibling petitions. The wait for sibling visas for those countries are around 20 years or more.

You are correct about the Philippines my coworker has petitioned for all of her sisters to come here and 2/3 of them here and the last one will be here next year. It has been almost 20 years for each of them.

This is absurd, ridiculous, and sad for my aunt. I don't think she wants to immigrate to US when she is 60+.

It is sad but it's the truth sorry to say.

What if she comes to US on a visit visa that she already has for 5 years and gets her status changed. Is that possible or will she be deported?

It is not ridiculous. Please understand the reason for the delays.

There are only a limited amount of visas offered per year to the US. As a result, they are put into categories on priorities. It just so happens that siblings are in the lowest category. People would rather have their spouses and wives here first over brothers and sisters. So siblings have to wait it out.

I love my brothers to death and if they needed a kidney I would be the first to volunteer. But I would not place them over having my wife and children with me so I am all for siblings being in a lower category.

She won't be able to do that. Her adjustment would get denied because overstays are NOT forgiven by siblings. The only way to adjust status from a visitor visa is by a US citizen spouse or child.

There is no status to change to.  If she overstays at all then she doesn't get a visa because they don't forgive overstays for siblings.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Eric,

Priority Date is basically the date when you receive your first  notice of acceptance letter from USCIS when you file your I-130. That date becomes your priority date.

Thanks

Earlier somebody posted this:  current pd 22MAY04.  moving very slow.  ur aunt have 8-10 more years.

What does that mean?  They are now processing the people who applied in 2004?  Is that for all countries or specific countries only?
