Hello

Welcome and congratulations on your engagement!

I'll just go ahead and jump right in....

My name is Janet and my fiance is Algerian. I began my K1 journey in February  (and his interview is in 2 weeks)

Here is a couple of helpful hints I have for you guys......

Front load your petition.

If there are any red flags.... visit each other more than once before applying  (Morocco, Algeria and most MENA countries are considered high fraud and getting a visa is more difficult)

Prepare yourself for the wait  (my NOA2 took over five months to arrive).

This forum has been incredibly helpful and the people here have an amazing knowledge of the process and can answer most of the questions you may have. I do not know what I would have done without the support of the people here.

Several people here have been through Casa and they can give you more embassy specific information.

Good luck with your journey!

Casablanca is a difficult embassy - if you look at the statistics, not many K1s are given out - those who are, usually the couples have had many visits together, or long visits (2-3 months at a time). I'm an American Muslim too and I filed for my Moroccan fiance after 1 visit - and we were not approved - not denied, but not approved - it was sent back to the USCIS after 14 weeks of Administrative Processing. There were 7 other males at his interview and none got visas approved. In any given month, if you look at the statistics, only about 10-15 K1s are approved the entire month.

There is a Facebook group in Darija for the Morocccan fiances where they talk about the process, if you want a link, send me a message.

DO:

Spend a lot of time together, preferably over a year or more.

Consider after spending all the time together to get married and file CR1 instead of doing K1.

Be patient - the whole process is taking a lot longer now.

DON'T:

Think that one visit will get you by.

Rush into things.

Presume that just because you're an American Muslim things will be easier for you - proof of a real relationship will be best.

salaam alaikum, barakallah

I would recommend that you use VisaJourney and do a lot of research. Talk to the people on here if you need help. I think you can do it alone as many others, including myself, have done. I have a friend who married a man in Morocco and they have been married for 4 years. She applied for his visa 2 years ago and they are still waiting. There were a couple of issues with their case, needing proofs, etc... But, they are using a lawyer and 2 years is A LONG TIME.

Some people have done the process alone and the time it took was 9-11 months. I've talked to a lot of different people, most of them marrying or married to someone from Morocco, like us.

I was going to use VisaJourney, but I was seriously afraid they would make a mistake. I felt better having all of the control.

Best of wishes to you.
