Ash Carter, Former Secretary of Defense:

In a statement following the ban, Carter, who originally called for an end to the ban, said, "Quality people in uniform are what make our military the finest fighting force the world has ever seen. I continue to maintain that what matters in choosing those who serve is that they are best qualified. To choose service members on other grounds than military qualifications is social policy and has no place in our military."

He added, "This action would also send the wrong signal to a younger generation thinking about military service."

They're clearly confused and this mental problem will only serve as a liability for the military. Not fit for service.

I have severe ADHD and a history of defiance toward authority. I'm not fit for service either despite trying to join the USAF following my dad's service in the Marines. Not everyone needs to be because it isn't for everyone.

Some transgender people may not be "fit for service", just like some non-transgender people like yourself are not fit. Similarly, some transgender people are fit for service.

I see no reason why we wouldnt' be able to treat them the exact same way as any other person. Have them undergo a psychological evaluation. If they clear and are fit to service, they can serve. Why lump them all into one group and say "Obviously none of them are fit". I'm sure some won't be able to serve, but I'm sure others would.

They absolutely should be treated the same. However, catering to gender therapy and other elective procedures cannot be confused with this. It gets worse when people try and liken it to homosexuality. Far, far from the same.

The ability of someone to serve their country is something that should be done without discrimination over things people cannot control, or things that unambiguously wouldn't be a detriment to others serving, including the environment upon which they serve. The idea of what encompasses discrimination in this case is just insane.

As someone who actually served with many gay/trans people I don't really see an issue with it considering even the military that faces some of the biggest issues in the world deals with it.

While Trans weren't always accepted as gleefully(although that has changed too), you were always able to be openly gay and serve long before "don't ask don't tell" in the US.

You were not allowed to be gay and be open before dont ask dont tell.

I was saying that in Israel, even before don't ask don't tell you were allowed to serve and without the don't ask don't tell nonsense. You asked, you told, it was no big deal.
