anyone here have any experience with changing consulate at NVC stage????

 

I need to change the consulate from Montreal to Mumbai.

When I filled for I-130 back in 2017, i used to live in Canada. But since I moved to India from January 2018.

 

I sent email to USCIS in January and was expecting that they would have changed it.

 

But now I see on my CEAC account that my Interview location is still Montreal.

 

I called NVC and was asked to submit a public inquiry form on ASKNVC with my passport copy. I was also told that I can continue with the submission of the documents online.

 

Not everything that comes from operators at NVC is 100% true. They are just giving you general information whats in front of them

Also I see here many people says not to submit documents and wait till the change is done online. Because changing consulate also changes the case number. 

 

Any idea when they respond to the asknvc inquiries and how much time it takes to change the consulate.

My spouse is in a similar situation, she used to live and work in the UK when I filed, so I picked London, but is now in the US on a H1-B visa. Her country of birth/citizenship is France. We decided to proceed with consular processing instead of AOS as, at this point, it would just delay the process significantly and she can easily work remotely for a few weeks.

 

Anyway, I called NVC on Friday and was told the same as you, wait until the welcome letter to get your NVC case number and submit an inquiry with:

- The case number

- The beneficiary's new address

- A proof of citizenship, birth or residency of the country where the new consulate is based in.

 

Seems inquiries take about 4 weeks to be processed currently, you can check that here https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/national-visa-center/nvc-contact-information.html

 

Good luck! Since you're a bit ahead of us, let me know when you're done with it and if you face any difficulty.

NVC says 6 weeks but its never usually on that time. For GPG it took 2 weeks. 

 

I know a person who got qualified within 24 hours after submitting all the documents.

Yes, the timeframe on the site is lagging. Based on other's timeline, NVC emails the interview schedule within 4 - 6 weeks once documentarily qualified.

Nothing unusual. Questions about how we met, how long we have known each other, the last time we saw each other and how frequent we communicate. They also asked how well we know each other's families, their names and such. It was pretty straightforward.

The I-864 goes to the NVC after USCIS approves the petition.

Thanks. Do you mean after the documentations are qualified it takes another 4-6 weeks for NVC to notify you the interview time? While depending on where the interview is conducted, it will likely be a month after NVC's notification?
