It's still a very stupid thing to challenge workplace culture (openly on social media at that), especially in an era where workplace culture is at its height of importance for both small businesses and corporate environments. There are avenues to take to internally protest overbearing dress codes. Note that they said they would "temporarily" relax their dress codes due to the overbearingly sweltering heat.. becoming an issue that goes into health and safety (a perfect avenue to pitch a protest internally), not capitulating to social justice as it was spun to be.

He is young and will learn this is not the way to move up the ranks and earn more. Also future employers will look at his social media and his chances for better employment could be limited

I had a colleague back when I started working after college that took the whole Open Door policy seriously.  He went in to the plant managers office and made some sort of demand (I cannot remember what), then went back to work.  In a few weeks he was transferred to a very undesirable position.

Just to add to this story.

"Boys are wearing skirts to school to protest 'no shorts' policy"

https://www.yahoo.com/news/boys-wearing-skirts-school-protest-no-shorts-policy-091611896.html

I'd pick a private school with a little more reasonable a dress code.

In the mid-late 90s in high school I was banned from wearing Detroit Red Wings jerseys (to rub it in the faces of Sharks fans) due to one of my jerseys belonging to Brendan Shanahan, who wore #14. The home jersey (at the time home jerseys were light and away was dark) was white with red numbers so was a Red #14.. which was the colors and number of a California Hispanic gang. Even though I'm not Hispanic, nor obviously a member of their dumb gang, I was still banned from wearing it because gang members complained to the school. I kid you not.

Most of my employers have always been business casual, so never been a prob to wear what I usually wear (cargo + tee's or polo). Hell, when I worked at Google (on their main campus), I had never seen so many people dressed completely casual. One of the founders Sergey Brin regularly came to work speeding through the Google campus on his Segway with bed hair and in pajamas. When I was an intern the stuff they gave us was oddball colors like neon green and such. When I worked in the video game industry we did business casual, but I'd regularly go out with coworkers (no need at Google since they do everything there, including TGIFs) golfing and such. I was easily the worst one at it (hadn't golfed since I used to golf with my dad before he died when I was a young kid) but I still had fun, even though the people on the other side of the driving range nets didn't like all the balls I hooked/sliced over the range nets. Anyways, when we would go golfing rather than blend in I looked like Adam Sandler from Happy Gilmore wearing a jersey, except I sucked.

We are completely business casual, but shorts are not allowed.  Even when out on a test trip in Arizona, or Death Valley we have to wear long pants (usually jeans).  To me it makes sense as crawling under a truck in a gravel parking lot in shorts can be a bit uncomfortable.

There's a workplace here that has declared a "tie free zone". I like it. I've always detested dress codes, like why do we all have to look the same? I mean it would make sense in some places, but very few. Just not my cup of tea, if I wanted everyone to be robots or zombies I'd move to japan where many of them seem to appreciate those kinda things much more. Hell even when we were on the cruise they had 2 formal nights. We refuse to do formal(you won't catch me alive in a suit and tie, ever), so we either went to the Buffet or had room service.

Unfortunately, Katya likes to dress up when going out (at home she is totally casual), so I have to put on a suit occasionally.  Sometimes I do wear a tie to work for no reason.  People always seem to think I am going to a funeral, or I have a position interview.

lol even to our wedding we were smart casual, that's about it. I like doing smart casual from time to time, that's about as dressed up as we get. I just don't see a point to a suit and a tie. Who decided it looks good and why, and then who decided everyone has to do it and look the same? It's just all stupid to me. For the same reason we're also not much into following fashion trends or "high fashion", because 99% of what I see on runways makes me want to vomit. I also don't believe in being a follower and doing something just because "other people" are doing it so we pretty much make our own fashion.
