What really needs to change the most is how much authorities care about leftist political correctness. Knowledge of who suspects are isn't so much the problem as we can see in the vast majority of cases -- the concern of backlash preventing something being done about it is, whether it be in the form of surveillance, travel bans, or amending laws to incarcerate individuals who are clearly planning something for a much longer period. As mentioned previously, the left are the ones who stand in the way of reasonable changes.

 

 

 

 

Indeed I think they need to do more. I'd rather lose a bit of freedom that way than by barricading myself to death. I believe you need to be pro-active, not just defensive.

That's true. I was 100% opposed to legislation like the PATRIOT Act, and still am, because merely taking freedoms away shouldn't be a first line response to terrorist acts, it should be the last resort. First one is cultural.. ostricization. The independents and moderates need to place significant pressure on the left to stop acting like idiots and opposing those who are more proactive about stopping terrorism sans more government authority, otherwise the only solution remaining is such, in which nobody wins. Vigilance, being nosy, knowing people, rather than shutting ourselves off from others around us, allowing extreme elements like that to propagate.

Agreed.

 

I think if there is going to be a reinstated travel ban it needs to be more nuanced - no bans on LPRs and consider banning nations that have proved links to funding terrorism (gulf states).

Take the third attacker who has just been identified. Once again he is an Italian-Moroccan dual citizen, so he has free movement. Morocco is on no travel ban list. He had been previously caught trying to enter Syria with the intent to join a terrorist organization, with plenty of evidence on his person. Despite this they not only let him go but made sure to warn the UK about his terrorist intentions... ummmmm.. really how many times does the ball get dropped here? In the last attack even US intelligence had warned MI5 about what was going on....

Hopefully political leaders feel the pressure now to make sure action is taken upon intelligence, especially obvious intelligence, rather than just waiting for something like this to happen and standing around with their ****s in their hands in front of the media after innocent lives are lost unnecessarily.

So, a hypothetical travel ban would not have done anything to prevent the attacks from taking place.

So, it seems that all the security measures were in place, and unless someone had arrested them, or spent more time investigating them, there would be no way to prevent the attacks.
