Anyone can amass an exorbitant number of Twitter followers. You don't even have to be famous. All you have to do is pay for them. The comedian Joe Mande currently has a healthy 1.01 million followers, but his bio contains a caveat: "twitter is trash, facebook's the devil, i bought a million followers for like $400 none of this matters antarctica is melting."

Mande even explained the stunt last November in The New Yorker. "The simplest way to tell who’s winning the Twitter game is by counting followers," he wrote. "The biggest celebrity accounts—Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga—seem to have millions of followers. But in 2012 I learned that only a portion of those are real humans; some are 'bots,' artificially created to boost an account’s popularity. Immediately, I knew that I had found my calling."

I used to have three Twitter accounts -- a normal one, a troll account to test the limits of their censorship/shadowbanning, and a news account specifically for getting updates on deals like products, flights, etc. I used an app called Talon. Was pretty good. I followed Trump on all 3 accounts. 

 

I wonder if this app had classified all my accounts as bots, and what goes into their classification. Of course, this is unrelated to the premise of the topic, because the topic maker asserted without proof (common theme) that Trump pays his followers.

 

Anyways, I deleted my Twitter accounts like a year ago after seeing how often Twitter shadowbanned accounts from news outlets they didn't like. I found it sleazy. Gab.ai is much better, at least, for now.

One nice thing about vj is I don't believe there are many or even any bots or shills. Twitter and other social media are full of bots. Reddit has tons of bots and equally as bad….shills.  One of the biggest bot users was the Clinton campaign. They used a shill and bot program called Correct the Record. Now they have renamed it Shareblue. 

 

The bots are very busy on twitter and are targeting Trumps tweets big time.
