Atlanta immigration detainee dies

Two detainees have died within a week in the same detention center.  One was a suicide, one a health related issue.  Although it's rare with increasing detentions I can see this happening more often.  It seems like people are being detained and not moved out quick enough.

NPR did a feature last week on the immigrant detention system and how long term detention (7years in some cases) became the norm after the paid prison system came into the picture on the 90s

private prisons = money to be made. i wouldn't expect deportations or processing to go quicker. disgusting. but plenty of trump supporters love it.

Sad but unfortunately neither case is the fault of ice.

 

I can't see a case for supporting anyone who has entered illegally especially when there are 1000's of US families separated while going through the process legally.

The thing is, I've spent the vast majority in my life in a state where illegals are given the red carpet treatment and draining local funds at the cost of helping people locally. I'm personally fed up of giving them any more freebies, regardless of if they committed another crime on top of their illegal presence that's causing them to go through the deportation process. Their deportation needs to simply be expedited.. for the sake of enforcing US law, and whatever else (i.e. getting them adequate medical help).

Clearly the guy was not fit to travel to begin with, so he should have stayed in his own country.

 

ICE appears to have done everything correct.

 

"He was transferred to ICE custody in the Atlanta City Detention Center on Thursday, according to the agency. An initial medical screening at the time determined he had high blood pressure and diabetes. Two days later, Patel was transported to the hospital after a nurse checking his blood sugar noticed he had shortness of breath, ICE said. He died on Tuesday afternoon."

If it were not sickening, it would be pathetic to see how many people find delight in the death of of this man. It is made all the more sickening, because Mr. Patel was not in the country illegally.

 

 

Patel arrived at the Atlanta airport on May 10 on a flight from Quito, Ecuador. Authorities denied him entry into the United States because he did not have the necessary immigration documents, ICE said.

What it not to love about someone dying in custody of ICE? It's the Christian thing to do!

i personally find it sickening and pathetic, but i've come to expect as much from 'murica.
