In a self-congratulatory ad marking his first 100 days in office, President Trump labels major television networks “fake news.” So CNN is refusing to sell the president airtime to show the commercial.

“CNN requested that the advertiser remove the false graphic that the mainstream media is ‘fake news,’” the cable channel said in a statement. “The mainstream media is not fake news, and therefore the ad is false and per policy will be accepted only if that graphic is deleted.”

The “fake news” graphic to which CNN referred appears over a split-screen showing NBC’s Andrea Mitchell, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and CBS’s Scott Pelley.

The ad was produced by Trump’s campaign committee, which remains active; the president already has filed to seek reelection in 2020. The Trump campaign said Monday that it planned to spend $1.5 million to place the commercial on TV and online.

“It is absolutely shameful to see the media blocking the positive message that President Trump is trying to share with the country,” Michael Glassner, the Trump campaign's executive director, said in a statement. “It’s clear that CNN is trying to silence our voice and censor our free speech because it doesn’t fit their narrative.”

I actually agree with CNN on this one...this ad is pointless and dumb.

I feel a great disturbance in the force.  Up to this point Trump would not be paying for this type of message, he would hype out free coverage.

It's interesting the graphic doesn't include Faux. Why not address fake news on the original fake news network.

Sure it could, but it says FOX. What other news channel needed a slogan like 'fair and balanced' for something that had generally been implied by news coverage up until that point. FOX was really the trailblazer for pushing the limits of fake news.

When they started, the distrust of the mainstream media was just starting, and they saw an opportunity.  Considering they grew much larger (in viewership) than their more established competition, I would say it worked.  As to fake news, or better yet poor news quality, they (the MSM) all do it including Fox, so that argument is a non-starter.

https://liberalsbackwardsthink.com/2015/03/06/the-4d-nutwork-of-liberal-debate-deride-distract-deny-demonize/

Distract – When a liberal realizes they are losing the argument they always change the subject.  They will switch to something about which they believe you are wrong and move away from the subject that you have proven their assertions are in error.  They do this deliberately in order to make you the one who is wrong and, once they prove you are wrong on the other subject you are assumed to be wrong on the original subject.

The solution to this is to keep yanking the conversation back to the subject and not allow them to deviate and take control with a new subject.  The new subject is irrelevant and the object of a different argument.  Stick to the issue at hand!

I agree, it is interesting that this thread started about CNN refusing to sell add time to President Trump's representatives that essentially rips CNN and their work output.  CNN has every right to refuse this service.

I agree with your assessment Ori. I read the bolded part and immediately thought "huh, how is this ad in anyway a positive message?" Only the Trump admin could spin something completely negative as being something positive and then complain when the very people he is criticizing refuses to give him the air time to do so. What a chump, er sorry I meant Trump. #Winning

We really aren't arguing about anything. In fact Bill agreed with me that FOX really capitalized on an opportunity.  Pseudo news and a captive audience was their bread and butter.

I'm not surprised you chose to resort to liberal bashing again though. Your thought train seems to follow a single track in that regard.

He's getting his money's worth out of his playbook, that's for sure. I just hope the pages aren't sticky.

Ironic, isn't it that CNN refused to air this one piece of fake news, when the so-called president calls them fake news. They should air it, and segue with a disclaimer.

Maybe they could change it to midfle of the road coverage
